yes red cross is there but i haven't seen them dropping supplies for people stuck on top of their homes or in areas that are surrounded by 25 ft of water. Do you?

people at the local store stealing and people who are on their roofs or surrounded by 25 feet of water are 2 different situations.

people on their roofs arent the one's who are stealing.

those stealing are able to get around which means they were able to make preparations.

Ok, we are speaking for the people that for whatever reasons did not leave the area.

Would you sit on rooftop and starve to death or grab something to eat until help arrived?

:exercise:

how do you reckon they should grab something while sitting on their roof ?

The Red Cross told reporters the Katrina relief effort would be bigger than that of Sept. 11.

"We know that there is a lot of the coast that we have not been able to get to," Barbour said. "I hate to say it, but it looks like it is a very bad disaster in terms of human life."

I would like to make one thing clear, guys: I would like to think I would be better prepared than to have to go loot a store. I was just answering the question and not changing assumptions.

If I get to change assumptions then no, I wouldn't loot for honey buns and gator aid because I would have been stocking up on some supplies before-hand and I would have carried those supplies to my roof as well (or out of harms way.) tulsa

This will be unpopular. But i really get sick and tired of hearing these storm victims piss and moan. I mean these things arnt like Twisters that give no warning there gonna strike. Everyone has plenty of time to evacuate like they should. If you cant for whatever reason. Then im sure the Red Cross, Police, or dozens of other rescue types will make sure you are taken to safe ground. So my answer is hell no you shouldnt steal food or water or anything else for that matter. You know these damn things are coming 3 or 4 times a year so be responsible and be prepared. If you're not requirer to evacuate, then have your shit together before the storm arrives. Being poor or even homeless is no excuss. Theres all kinds of agencys that will be glad to help these people.

Not unpopular at all. If you live on the coast, you know the risks. The country continually bails out people who simply shouldn't live there if they can't handle that risk. You know there are earthquakes in California, and hurricanes in Florida, and snow in Buffalo. At some point, builders and insurers shouldn't get bailed out by the government. Buy your own insurance, don't expect help from the Feds. I have no problem with that.

Viking are you down there doing the stealing yourself. You sound like someone who simply likes to justify things for people...Do you also blame movies and video games for childhood violence?.....Oh wait, that's not your question, I'm sorry, I'm offtopic again.

I guess I have assumed that before they starve, the rooftop people would get off the roof and steal a bag Doritos and a 2-liter of Pepsi.

I have lots of compassion for what has happened. I have zero compassion for people who steal, and people who look for any reason to loot, and also people who simply make excuses for people every step of the way...You act like such an arrogant ass simply b/c I have an opinion other than yours. That's what pisses me off.

It is ashame that those who were prepared, boarded up there stores and sought shelter from the storm, are now victims of the storm because of the people who find it necessary to loot.

Those stuck on a roof are not looting.

Also, in a time of need, such as now in NO, i think walking up to another and kindly asking for a bottle of water or a dash of food would be a first option, if help stations are not around as of yet.

You can be pissed and entitled to your opinion...provides me with entertainment...you spun this into people stealing TVs and Ipods when they are taking food and water...i just posted the question after seeing video of the above take place...didn't see any ipods in the cart...this was a grocery store, not a best buy. 80% of the city underwater and is a floating pile of muck. You answered the question and it was noted but you are turning this into a different agenda here. There is no food, no water, no sewage, no hospitals, no where to put these people, no red cross, no roads in or out of city, no airport, NOTHING!!

God bless all these people even if they have to "steal" some bananas and gatorade from a flooded grocery store to survive for the many weeks to come without any of the above NOTHINGS!!

World Number One: You won't get international aid if you don't ask for it. Many countries (inc. UK) have offered assistance -- financial or otherwise -- but your President's so far said "We'll manage thanks".

BTW, Wembley is being rebuilt, and has been closed for several years.

"you guys, except fish, aren't answering the question. This city is a mess, these people have no homes left and help is not very readily available, they can't go anywhere. "

I am confused, they can't go anywhere? If they need food an water they can go to the red Cross. Stealing plain and simple. Can't wait to see how many will use the FISHHEAD defense in Court. GOOD LUCK.

Most of the stories you are hearing are total bullshit!!!! These self righteous people talking about how they would remain honest and sing kumbaya or eat cockroaches before they steal are out and out liars!!!!

THATS BULLSHIT MAN!!!!!!

Every single person on this forum bar none would be standing right infront of the carrying food out or directing their kids as to what products to get and what not to bother with...

Do you self righteous nuts think that people like the donner party or that football team that was stranded on a mountain ever even considered that they would eat each other if found in such a situation???

Whether or not these people were too stupid or too lazy to get out is besides the point...The issue is that they are there right now have no food, clean water or basic necessities!!! They are not stealing they are surviving...

Oh an by the way those stupid people who say they would not steal, should try and use some logic and think things out!!!! If my local kroger store has food after a storm like the one that hit these places, then it is your duty as a citizen to make sure you take all that food!!!!!

what the f@ck is the grocery store going to do with water socked crap that will probably be rotten by the time any one even manages to get back into the city!!!! What kind of dildo heads are you people????

so f@cking what if the guy stole an ipod???? Was your dumbass going to buy a water socked ipod from that very same store? Are you too stupid to figure out that all these stores are going to destroy pretty much all of their inventory!!!! And dont give me crap about how they would salvage some usable products and wipe them off and put them back on the shelves...Thats bullshit!!!! the insurance will cover all their losses!!! Or were you under the impression that Walmart does not pay for insurance????

I really hate when well off people chime in on their high horses about how fuckin honorable they are and how they wouldnt do this and that!!!!

I WOULD STEAL OR EVEN EAT YOUR DOGS LIVER IF IT MEANT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH...AND IF I FIND A BOTTLE OF CHIANTI AND SOME FAVA BEANS FLOATING BY IN THE FLOOD, THEN BUDDY ITS YOUR KIDNEYS ON THE MENU FOR MY NEXT MEAL!!!!!!!

Well, I can assure you that there are people out there in this world that do not nor would they act like you propose under any circumstance. I'm one of them whether you believe me or not.

You might react in the manner you say. I hope to never be anywhere near you in a crisis as you fight your way to the front of the water line so that your family 'gets theirs.' Subscribing to 'I'm more important than you' is not how our society has flourished. No, not everyone is altruistic. Among powerful and poor; well known and destitute there are those that would kill you for your possessions if they could get away with it even in the best of times. Enough people are 'righteous' that we function and we function pretty well. You may not believe it, but there are people that would put their life before yours to try to help you. They are not everywhere but there are enough that we still function. I know lots of people like you, though....selfish. Good luck.
Your society, given the chance would look very much like Lord of the Flies and less like ours than you believe (even in good times.)

I know there are people struggling to live today and tonight and tomorrow and next week. There will be good acts and there will be bad and people will make those choices. Don't believe for a second that everyone is like you. tulsa

Oh God, you made me laugh and I'm still laughing....purple boys, LOL!! Ok...at least do me a big favor: at least sharpen the knife.

'I've had my eye on you...' I thought my posts might lead to people thinking of me as edible...I need to change my posting style and sentence structure.

I have better to offer than kidneys too, by the way....organ meat is pretty funky crap to eat. I am beer and milk fed, so the roasts and such could very well be outta sight!! tulsa
