Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good! That said, I would like to defend my NE pick last wk against those that say it should have been a surefire PIT win. 1[SUP]st[/SUP], even if Ben didn’t throw the worst fake spike in the history of fake spikes, PIT would’ve likely kicked a FG to send gm to OT, where NE could’ve won by a FG there also. Secondly, by NFL rules, Jesse James’ TD was not a reception, so the zebras had no choice but overturn that. 3[SUP]rd[/SUP], key pts in my writeup were NE’s advantages over PIT’s “D” @ WR, RB & most notably Gronk, which were all relevant in gm opening & gm winning drives. Also the coaching matchup advantage, which good ol’ Tomlin (or Haley as Ben noted) elected to try the fake spike despite the team on the field thinking it was going to be a spike. And if Brady doesn’t throw that bonehead pick on their side of the field (GOAT under pressure, not so great), this might not have even been that close. Obviously you can tell I was getting a lot of “you were lucky” calls this wk! Anyway, I also got lucky w/MIA/BUF total, LAR & Teaser to polish a perfect wk.
POW 9-6, Teasers 8-7, Overall 41-25-1.
JAX -4 ½ amazingly enough are the hidden darlings of the AFC. They’ve already secured POs for the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] time in 10 yrs, but have a shot to win their div (last one in 1999) AND possibly get a 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rd bye! So although the LAR/TEN gm will likely be decided by kickoff, I feel JAX will still pull out all the stops to try to get that all important 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rd bye. JAX has lost 8 straight west coast gms including a recent head scratcher @ ARI. But that gm was a serious overlook job by JAX, as former Jag Gabbert was making his 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] start & was flying high w/confidence as well as that being the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] in back to back rd gms. Jimmy G has been terrific for SF. He is throwing the ball quickly & accurately, to multiple receivers. So by no means will this be easy for JAX. But SF has not seen a “D” like this. Sending 4 “D” starters to pro bowl, JAX has an attacking, physical “D” that doesn’t miss a lot of tackles. So Robbie Gold (might as well leave out the U) will prob get a bunch of pts, but it will be a task for SF to reach the endzone. JAX is also #1 against the pass & leads the league in sacks. All I need is for JAX to score & this should be a done deal. Fournette is likely to return, so w/fresh legs & breathers from established RBs Ivory & Yeldon (not to mention suddenly relevant FB Bohanon), Bortles should have time to pass to his upstart WRs Cole, Westbrook & Mickens. Speaking of Bortles, a lot of folks are still saying his play thus far has been a fluke, including Jadaveon Clowny. But he currently has more TDs than Matt Ryan, fewer INTs than Russell Wilson, better QBR than Scam Newton, more rushing yds than Mariota, more passing yds than Carr & higher comp % than Wentz. If you told me that would happen prior to season starting I would’ve asked you what you were smoking & if you could please let me know where you purchased it.

I may add more units if it looks like TEN will win their earlier gm.
