BAL would’ve blown out SD if not for silly offside penalties BAL’s dline was gift wrapping on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] downs, or if BAL’s WR’s just caught half the balls they dropped on their own critical downs (2 for possible TDs). Just amazing poor play ruined what would’ve been a big day for me. PIT was the other downer for me almost taking down my teaser. Tomlin must sleep the 2 wks he’s on bye every yr.
POW 8-5, Teasers 6-7, Overall 37-29-1
MIN (-5) took advantage of CAR’s poor preparation off their bye for an exclamation mark win @ hm last wk 31-13. That likely won’t be the score this wk (although it’s very possible) against a much better “D”. That said, DE Mo Wilkerson will miss another gm which hurts NY’s pass rush. Bridgewater has shown poise down the stretch & esp last wk (120 QBR & 71% comp). Compare this to Geno Smith’s numbers last wk: 35 QBR & 53% comp. Now Rex Ryan totally sabotaged his QB vs MIA by running the ball a ridonkulous amt of times & never getting Smith a chance to get any rhythm passing. So he could set him loose here, although it’s unlikely since MIN’s run “D” is much worse than it’s pass “D” too. The big issue for me here w/NYJ is what’s the state of the locker room? What can Ryan say to them to get them fired up for a cold, miserable, no-frills matchup @ MIN? Last wk they were @ hm vs a hated div rival on primetime. I can easily see the Jets march out for warm-ups in 32 degrees & possible snow & say to each other, “Let’s get this over with & go hm.” Whatever good players there are on NY’s squad can’t possibly be motivated to play up for a lameduck HC in foul weather (no pun intended). Meanwhile on the other side MIN is still in the PO hunt, are @ hm, like their HC, & like their QB. Losing McKinnon for the yr is not good for this “O”, & w/Asiata & Tate looking like a pair of plow oxen, NY should have little problems containing them from making big plays. But, w/All-State hands Greg Jennings & the arrival of 4[SUP]th[/SUP] yr man Charles Johnson (3 straight gms w/22 or greater yd plays), Norv Turner has been able to move the ball thru the air w/the maturation of Teddy. Indeed ST’s helped greased the skids vs CAR w/2 blocked punts last wk, but MIA also blocked a punt for great field position & the game tying TD. Percy Harvin returns to the team that drafted him, but I hardly see that as a factor (already played them w/SEA). To add on to NY’s misery, their best player on “O” kicker Nick Folk is dealing w/a hip issue that likely contributed to his 2 missed FG’s that cost them the gm.
