"I've met foreign leaders who can't go out and say this publicly, but boy, they look at you and say, 'You've got to win this, you've got to beat this guy, we need a new policy,' things like that," Kerry told a crowd

Seeing as how he hasn't met any of those "foreign leaders" (maybe you're thinking of Rumsfeld) he could not be talking about any of those pictured above.

thppt is a raspberry, and the irony is that the weakness being preyed upon has dramatically shifted, hasn't it? I wonder who might be deemed the evil doers now?

I guess its a matter of perception..I just can't see why all the resentment toward the US by other countries.
The one thing I know is there seems to be a bigger disconnect the further away you live from ground zero. And the further away in time we get from 9/11.

rasberries for a hiya?..geesh,your a tough cookie.

Raspberries with nothing but love, no worries.

If you are truly wondering why the US is so resented at this time, you need to remember how (much of) the world felt about Russia at one time. You can make your arguments about communism being inherently evil and capitalism being inherently good in order to keep the two ideologies from being treated the same, but you would be missing the point.

I think in all honesty that global nations are divided into two camps with regard to the US's seemingly New World Order: a. they are an ally or trading partner and resent the amount of control the US has and the way they use it, with or without support; or, b. they aren't an ally of the US and are scared shitless that the US's new and bolder assertions of resort to force may land in their laps.

Either way, I predict near-armaggedon if Bush is re-elected. It seems that the farther away from the Cold War we get, the more our short-term memory takes over.

Noital: in all honesty, I don't think the Iraq invasion was purely for oil, although that would be the big prize at the end of it all for sure. I think it has more to do with an assertion that this admin will resort to force when it deems appropriate, and failing to attack Iraq would have undermined their credibility. In some bizarre way, I think the US has been long been on a mission toward a global domination of sorts, and that the Bush admin are just proving to be the ballsiest at moving it forward. Oil and other such prizes are part of the motivation for this kind of power and strength, but I don't think they constitute the forerunner.

If that's the case then why not take over the world after the 2nd World War. Europe and Asia would have been ripe for the plucking. They must have been trying to lull the world asleep.
