The life of a bettor is not for everyone. I should know, my partner is professional handicapper and I often get left with the tedious data entry, shifting through all the workouts, putting in bets and finding ways to make all that work faster. Needless to say, I spend many hours in front of the computer, but not nearly as much as he does.
I was recently reading “Beyer on Speed” and found his opinion of women and horse racing insulting. He was telling a story where he missed a bet on a huge long shot because his date wanted to eat. He goes on to say, he no longer combines the two. Are you kidding me? First of all, I’m sure a simple “in one minute, honey” would have sufficed. Secondly, if you can’t combine your two loves then you’re doing something wrong, not your lady.
There is no thrill greater then when you have money riding on a bet, whether it’s a sunk shout from half court in the last minute of a tied game or two horses duelling for the lead at the wire. Sharing that thrill with the one you love is even greater. Yes, there will be a few menial questions here and there, but most women are new to betting, like you were once. Think of it like your new best friend wants to learn all about betting .
I was ignorant once, spending most of my time at the track people watch, gossiping with the rich old ladies and interrupting at all the wrong times. As years past, I started to understand the game, its timing and discovered I have a knack for picking winners based on looks. Now I watch the horse more then my partner does, winning depends on it.
By paying attention, asking menial questions and learning to love the game, I too am passionate about betting. I have my own 2 year old virtual barns and study pedigree dosage. I am no longer in the way, I contribute. If more men took the time to help their partners learn the game, you too could have a winning team J.
