Baylor +5
Very even matchup tonight. Baylor and LSU play great ball on both ends of the court. Two teams so evenly matched call for a dog play. Everyone is ranting and raving about LSU's backcourt and Baylor's front. LSU has agruably the best guard duo in Temeka Johnson and Seimone Augustus, combining for 32 ppg. Baylor's frontcourt is their strength with Sophia Young and Steffanie Blackmon working together to average 33.5 ppg and 17.4 rpg. I have to give the advantage here to Baylor as they shoot the ball better from downtown (40.9% vs 35%). As evident early in their Elite Eight matchup against Duke, the Tigers were having trouble containg Duke F Misty Williams. Duke also forced LSU to take outside shots, particularly from behind the arc, where LSU is not comfortable and ranks last in the SEC. The Tigers do best when they can run the court on fast breaks or penetrating the lane for quick jumpers and lay ups. Chelsea Whitaker, the point for Baylor, will have her hands full trying to slow down Johnson and prevent her from driving the lane and creating. Also, Abiola Wabara will try and contain Augustus. Wabara is considered one of the best one-on-one defenders in the nation and the best of all four teams left. Duke showed that LSU can be hurt downlow, but couldn't keep up with Pokee Chatman's adjustments. Baylor is better and more experienced than Duke and will have answers to any adjustments attempting to shut down the low block, as Baylor relies on their frontcourt players more. Sylvia Fowles for LSU played great against Duke with 13 points, 11 rebounds, but she will have her hands full against Baylor. One other plus for Baylor is that Chamke Scott seems to have come back to life, as she shot 4-8 from downtown against UNC for 18 points before shooting 0-9 in the first two tournament games. You also got to like the revenge factor here as these two played earlier in the season. Baylor lost 71-70 after trailing by 21 at halftime. Even with the loss Baylor know they can run with LSU and should be ready to go.
