My personal note:
Every so offen it's a good idea to change the WEP Security Keys on your wireless access points.

Description:

For generating wep security keys for wireless routers and access points.

How To Use:
To use launch Wireless Key Generator. Then simply select bit size and mode and click onto the Generate button. Once generated save the keys to a text file, burn to CD, and use the CD to copy one of the keys on each wireless computer.

Download:

Makes life easier. :103631605

Atten: #1Cheater#, With all do respect I didn't post this in your software thread only because it's a wireless software.

Free wireless

Noticed my wireless is not secured. Not cumputor literate . Is changing to a secure a difficult thing to do for a not so able type . In English if possible. Just got my computer back today after having problems with Spyware, adware and a bad battery. Had no idea what he told me was wrong and i asked him twice to use small words. Just know it works better , but not as good as six weeks ago.He supposedly installed Norton's, spysweeper and some type of wash. When checking my connections , noticed everyone in the neighborhood had secure connections excet for me. Still have my original wireless box , but no instructions. it is a linksy's router, if that means anything.:cryingcry

Which Linksy's Wireless Router do you have? Check the back or below the router for the model, etc.

Just some basics.

Do you have the routers IP address?

You need to enter the router to configure the WEP (64bit 0r 128bit Encryption, etc.).

You need to establish keys, which the software above will make life easier.

Then you have to choose which key to use. Anyone will do.

The key that you choose will be used on the wireless adaptor, (laptop, etc.)

Let me know if you want me to continue.

Good luck.

Go to your browser. Type 192.168.1.1 Enter

A login screen will appear. Username - Admin Password - Admin (this is the default setting, hoping that nobody changed it)

Once entered - Go to the security tab

Wireless - WEP 128bit Encryption

Use the above software and create 4 keys (copy and paste)

Paste each key in the appropiate area (key 1, key 2, etc.)

Default transmit key, use 1 - 4 (which ever you like)

------------------------------------------------------

Stay in the Router configuration.

Go to the setup tab.

Automatic configuration DHCP

Give a Router Name

Local IP Address- 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0

Enable DHCP Server

Starting IP Address - 192.168.1.2

100 User or the amount you would like.

THIS SHOULD BE DONE BY A PC THAT'S CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER. VIA THE ETHERNET

Pix, do you think it would be saft to call one of these tech support company that charge a one time fee per incident? All of this is way over my head. Sure wish it wasn't, but now know what ignorant feels like. Also, isure appreciate the help you tried to give me.Yesterday upon picking up my computer from Geeks on call, the tech was talking to me in a low slow drawl and i thought he was talking in some language i had never heard. Got the hell out of there, before i really looked like an idiot. It still is all messed up, but not going back there to leave it.

Ask a mod for my email. If you use an instant messenger I'll try and walk you through it if you'd like.
