On the road this week in Kissimmee, FL at a client site. The good thing is the resort has 4 golf courses. Bad thing is the resort has 4 golf courses. Arnold Palmer designs non the less. Still working on my card after a brutal week #2
4* Illinois -2
Had this one circled since summer as potential bad spot for immature Devils team. Off big win over Mizzou and it was a big win in front of a sell out crowd in Tempe, ASU now has to go on the road and face a very tough Illini team before coming home to their biggest out of state rival USC. We know about the dumb plays and bad penalties committed annually by ASU, but lets discuss the Illini. The Zooker has recruited a dual threat QB who is efficient with the football. I compare him to a young Russell Wilson in this stage of his growth. The difference is he had benefited by a great run game and they have the same this year. So ASU won't be able to just key on the QB they have to contain the backfield. They are not deep enough to do this against efficient teams. The ASU secondary is very weak and exploitable and if ASU sells out to defend the run, Scheelhaase will exploit ASU deep with the pass. ASU will be able to move the ball against the Illini but I dont think they can run the ball and the Illini has ends which can get up field. I might add that Illini have committed only 5 penalties through 2 games and they are +4 in the TO Margin on the year.
3* Washington +17
Nebraska still has really good athletes but Washington is getting bigger and faster. The UW defensive line might be the closes thing to a SEC DL on the West Coast. The UW run defense gives up less than 50yd per game. Where the UW Defense is lacking is in pass defense but Nebraska does not throw the ball well so they cannot exploit it. The OL of UW is improving and behind RB Polk can run downhill and be physical. I also like the matchup of QB Price v QB Martinez who can be a TO machine at times. UW is +5 in TO Margin and has only committed 9 penalties through 2 game. It's in Lincoln which has always been a tough place to play but I like the points in this one.
3* Vandy +2
This is more a play on HC Franklin and his offense than against Ole Miss. I don't think teams have enough film on Vandy yet and at home they have been pretty decent against teams that are fairly equal to them.
3* Kansas +14.5
I know this is a big revenge spot for GT but I think KU is getting better and while I know GT can run the bal I think they still leave it on the carpet too much to be laying DDs to another decent BCS team. I know Decent and KU have not been used in may football sentences lately. But KU is getting better and they won a game against a pretty good NIU team and they don't turn it over much.
As always, your input is greatly appreciated.
