To me, it's all about the Dance. One Shining Moment, baby. NIT might as well be a JV tournament, and is lower than women's basketball, in my opinion. Why even have it?

You can make a strong case though that a team winning the NIT would be ranked approximately 25th in the final imaginary poll in my opinion.

Nope. If they were 25th, they would have gotten in.

Not exactly....and I am counting the next couple weeks after the final poll and adjusting it....Maryland for example had been hovering around top 25 all season...you figure if the season continued and Maryland wins the NIT they would be around 25th...

There is no question the NIT Champion , no matter WHO it is is better than 20% of the big dance field and maybe better than as much as 55% of the field (best case scenario)

Well Michigan won the NIT last year. They didn't exactly parlay that success into this year.

I say it all depends on what type of team it is.

For mid-major's, the Big Dance is everything. They won't mind going out after one game.

For Top schools, winning the NIT would be much better than Losing their first game in the NCAA. Especially if the NIT winning team is really young, it gives confidence going into next year. That is why I wish Arkansas had played in the NIT.

I think it is a big advantage to go all the way to the final in NIT. Not so much for 'glory' or honor of thing but becaus eyou get to play a lot more basketball than somebody who doesn't go anywhere or is one and done in Dance. Kind of like playing in a minor bowl game in football as you just get a big jump on next year providied of course that most of your players are coming back.

I feel the team that wins the NIT each year is playing sweet 16 or better basketball at that point.

I think more people know that Oakland University got beat by North Caralina, then whoever wins the NIT. How many people can honestly say they remember who won the NIT last year without looking it up?

If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is there, does it make a noise?

I disagree Chop...who the hell remembers who played in last years playin game?

The NIT champ would beat quite a few teams from the dance , maryland beat Duke twice and was a shot away from beating Carolina late in the year...and they had a horrible year for them.
