Streisand lifts Hillary—slams Trump: When a politician ends sentences with 'believe me'... don't

Singer, actress, director, composer, and activist Barbra Streisand has been involved in politics for decades. As a woman, Streisand has "
broken the glass ceiling” with her work as a film director and producer. As an entertainer, she has one a plethora of awards. And as a political activist, the list of her contributions goes on and on.
Earlier in the year, Streisand used
Twitter to defend Hillary Clinton, and her tweet went viral. This week, the
Medal of Freedom recipient penned an
op-ed in the
Huffington Post called, “Facts Matter” and this time she attacked Trump, making some great points and adding some endearing Streisand humor.
Starting off, she tailors an old saying to fit the Republican presidential nominee to a T,
“When a politician ends almost every sentence with ‘believe me’... don’t!” She adds, “He’s probably lying.” The word “probably” is more of an understatement with Trump, but there is little else understated in Streisand’s piece. She cites the fact-check organization PolitiFact, that claims Trump is either “false,” “mostly false,” and “pants on fire”
71 percent of the time he speaks or tweets. But the media has been ignoring the truth and echoing the false. Streisand says the media seems to be “too entertained to correct Trump’s lies,” mentioning Matt Lauer. And then there’s Fox News personality Chris Wallace who will be hosting one of the debates, yet has gone on record saying that “facts are not relevant” to him. Streisand says this should be profoundly unacceptable to the American people. “Our country and its stability is on the line. Facts do matter.”
The beloved “Babs,” whose career has spanned six decades, said that when Trump throws around words like “crooked,” he’s really describing himself. She adds, “psychiatrists have explained how a person who refuses to recognize his own flaws will often project them onto other people.”
The award-winning singer/entertainer writes, “This is a man who has bankrupted companies, reneged on bank loans and he’s cheated small business owners.” She reminds us Trump is notorious for refusing to pay people who have worked for him, and if they don’t like it he says, “Sue me.” He knows most individuals and small businesses don’t have the resources to sue him, even though, Streisand says, “Trump’s been sued nearly
1,500 times over the last 30 years.”
In reaching out, Streisand sends a reminder out to Trump supporters,
To those supporters who believe he’s a rich businessman and think he’s going to make them rich...
get the facts straight. Investors in his failed casino ventures lost
90 percent of their money between 1995-2005. When the going gets tough, Trump vanishes. He eventually filed for bankruptcy, leaving others holding the bag.
Streisand gives a good number of examples and reasons why America needs to vote for Hillary Clinton. “Trump was shamed into coming up with the contribution he promised to veterans... Hillary actually got legislation passed” to expand their health care/benefits. And while Donald has vowed to appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn the ruling on marriage equality, Hillary declared that “gay rights are human rights” when she was Secretary of State.
In a most disturbing excerpt, Streisand says one in five of Trump’s supporters
believe slavery should never have been abolished. I had to pause after reading that, and again after typing it … and again.
Trump is basically a bully, says Streisand. And like all bullies, he’s a coward. And then when we look at Hillary after she’s been attacked by the Right for decades, we see she’s not only standing, she continues to be exonerated and greatly admired.
“She has negotiated with leaders around the world to keep us safe from nuclear threat because it would destroy the planet... while he shockingly said, ‘If we have nuclear weapons, why can’t we use them?’”
Then why is Hillary not getting credit for her accomplishments? “It goes back to something I’ve felt for many years …
strong women, powerful women have always been suspect.”

President Barack Obama presenting Barbra Streisand with The Medal of Freedom
One of my favorite excerpts from Streisand’s op-ed is when she cites Trump saying Hillary doesn’t look presidential…
What does that mean... coming from a guy who looks like a raccoon in a tanning bed... with a flying squirrel on his head? That’s what a president is supposed to look like? A wrestler who dies his hair blonde?
Snap! But Streisand is actually terrified when it comes to the Right continuing to plant lies into the minds of Americans again and again, because they can—and because it often works.
We can’t allow ourselves to be swiftboated again. We can’t let that happen to Hillary... a woman who has the temperament and the experience to be president... unlike Donald Trump, whose idea of foreign policy was bringing the Miss Universe pageant to Russia. How can you support a man who says, “Women... you have to treat them like sh—“ and believes such hateful things about 51 percent of the American population?
Streisand stresses not only that we need to vote for Hillary Clinton in November, but also vote for Democratic senators and congresspersons to end the negative obstruction. She wants lawmakers who work to get legislation passed on issues like gun control and
campaign finance reform. She says her heart sinks over the billions of dollars that’s already been spent during this presidential election cycle. “Just think what that kind of money could have done for medical research ... our schools ... our infrastructure.”
