Looks like the playoffs wont be able to get started on time since the Marlins vs. Cubs entire series is going to be washed out.

They will not have a chance to make up all 3 games, so I would expect they will have to be made up after the season ends which means the playoffs cant start until their series is over, plus you would think they would get a day or 2 off before the playoffs start.

This is assuming that their 3 game series matters but it almost certainly will play a role in the wild card race. It seems the only other alternative they would have would be to play doubleheaders each day in Chicago next weekend, but that wont happen because it would give the Cubs 3 etra home games and would ravage both teams Bullpens. The Marlins only day off between now and seasons end is Sept 20 ( not counting today, tommorow, Sunday, Monday because those days are no goes due to hurricane)

It seems the easy solution would have been to fly both teams to Chicago this weekend to play in chicago and then they could have played in Florida next weekend when they were supposed to play in Chicago.

That would have been the solution, but MLB wouldnt go for it because ticket sales would be so low.

Why not have one game in Norfolk, one game in DC, and one game in Vegas.
Whichever city puts on the best show gets the Expos.

LOL....GreenDoberman is on to something. Hey MLB, there's a minor league baseball stadium in my neck of the woods that is open this weekend. Only seats about 6,000, but heck, you'd be competing against Ohio high school football, so seating capacity wouldn't be an issue. I'd take in a Cubbies game!

Harbor Park in Norfolk,
Cashman Field in Vegas,
RFK in DC.

Cashman Field does have some ML regular season game history behind it.

If the Cubs had a full 4 game lead in the WC I guess there would be no need to make the series up. Although that is highly doubtful. That would kill Blue's play on Cubs under 93 because the teams generally have to play 160 games minimum.

If the Cubs lead the WC by 3 games they may only play enough games until the Cubs have clinched the WC and then they wouldnt play the rest. For instance, if the Cubs lead the Marlins in the WC by 2 games, and they win the first make up game thats all that would be needed.

There are many places they could move the game to, but I think they want the full attendance which they couldnt get in those other places.

They considered swapping locations for the two series, but apparently there is a Dolphins game the weekend of the 2nd series so they couldn't play in Florida.

Maybe the cubs can win their next 14 straight games and put it all to bed and then they wont even have to bother with make up games

I would say they would have to play a DH on Sept 20. If the one remaining game had to be played then they would play it in Fla after the regular season.

lets hope that doesn't happen. i would think they would find a way to play a full season if possible. a dh on 9/20 or in early october would make the most sense.

if they played 159 games...that would be the worst beat yet.

I still don't know why they didn't switch cities for these games. The Dolphins game next weekend is sunday night. You could have played Friday night, day night double header on Sat.What in the hell is so hard about figuring out that solution

MIAMI (AP) - The Florida Marlins postponed Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs as Hurricane Frances crept ashore on the eastern coast of Florida.

The Category 2 hurricane already had forced the first two games of the three-game series to be postponed but the Marlins waited until Saturday to make a decision about the third game.
The series was not rescheduled, but Marlins officials assured fans the games will be played at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. Likely makeup dates are Sept. 20, the only common off day between the clubs, and Oct. 4, the day before the playoffs begin.

Sounds like they'll try a little bit of everything...a double-header next weekend, a double-header Sept. 20 and a game Oct. 4 if needed. That DH Sept. 20th for the Cubs could be hell. Cubs will play 4 baseball games and travel 1000 miles two ways within around 52 hours.

From USA Today:

The series was not rescheduled, but there's a chance the teams will make up one of the postponed games at Wrigley Field this weekend. They could play a doubleheader either Friday or Saturday.

That means the Marlins would give up a home game, but there is a chance the defending World Series champions would be allowed to bat last in one of those games.

"I don't have any objection to that," Cubs president and CEO Andy MacPhail. "Whatever is determined to be fair."

The other two games might be played at Pro Player Stadium in Miami as a doubleheader Sept. 20, the only common day off for the clubs.

Making up a game Oct. 4, the day after the regular season ends, is not as likely because it might be needed for a wild card playoff.

Wilheim: Is there any precedent for a visiting team batting last. I can't ever recall seeing that.

Didn't SF make up a Montreal home game in SF earlier this year? I remember being surprised that Montreal was NOT treated as the home team getting the final AB. If they didn't, then why would Florida in this case?

I feel certain that there will be a double hitter on Sept 20 in Florida. Not really great news for Cubs as they will be playing 11 road games in 10 days ! If an extra game is necessary, it would most likely be played on Oct. 4 th. It would not be fair for the Cubs to have 4 home games to Florida's 2. Big difference IMO
