I had been thinking about the original War of Northern Aggression (Civil War). I was wondering that since the economy is starting to tank would the Southern states ever secede from the Union again? Kiln posted in his thread that the objection to the next proposed bailout was mostly in Southern States.

Will the South get so fed up with the economic bunglings of the Northern Yankee banks that they would just decide to go out on their own and divorce themselves from the North? Southerners still feel that the North is an aggressor.

i've had those thoughts

think best chance honestly is from the way northern states

like north dakota, montana etc....they at least share a border with canada...probably would have to throw in washington too for world trade and such....

the south would need a huge contingent to pull it off and have to worry about their own border security from mexico and such

would just be too damn hard for south to do it in this day and age with the mexican influx IMO

also think maine and new hampshire up there in the corner a remote possibility as well....

create a no income tax libertarian kook paradise and people will flock there in hoards :)

QLEAP, we're not going to secede. But there is serious talk of erecting a giant fence along that MasonDixon line to keep all the northern immigrants from invading our zone

I wouldn't mind two countries, and I pledge our commitment to continue to feed and house liberals that can't help themselves.

As for the rest of them, no longer would be my problem. Fuck, most of them don't file tax returns anyways.

I lived in Charlotte,NC for about 11 years & some White Southerners are still pissed & would like another go round & the way "some" blacks act "sometimes" to tell you the truth at times I wish the South had won the civil war....Now we import slaves in the form of legal Immigration (1 1/4 million per year) & Illegal immigration ( another 2million per year?) by flooding our job market & by criminal employers hiring Illegals.

:lolBIG:

yeah lets continue to live in the past and "protect" jobs to pick cotton and tend to the farm

that'll really help our country compete in the global economy :drink:

our population influxing intelligent immigrants as well as developing them at home to make the car, the oil well, the assembly line, the airplane, the computer, the internet, the TV, the Ipod, the dvd player etc...etc....is why america is what it is

people work for many of these companies in the states...and they provide their expertise and financing for other countries to make these products

apple has many US employees, dell does, intel does, yet they do have production overseas

in turn these other economies see a positive boost and they in turn consume these products and not just those products...maybe some shampoo made by proctor and gamble....or some coca cola...

and our american owned corporations as well as our shareholders who alot are americans get a slice of the wealth created from it

see the big picture of it all

if we as a nation continue to sit around living in the past making inefficient cars tending to the farm we are gonna go the way of the 3rd world economy

we need to continue to move forward inventing things and staying ahead of the curve of the rest of the world on the innovation front and education front.....and continuing to promote freedom and LEGAL immigration which brings alot of sharp minds from around the world to work in the US.....

i'm with you on the illegal end....our immigration system completely backwards

we promote illegal immigration.....and make it super duper hard for legal immigrants that play by the rules, aren't criminals, have a good education, and want to be part of our country for the long term....to stay here

We have plenty enough sharp minds here getting out of College & needing a job at a decent wage they can live on & pay their loans off & we don't need any more imported heads or asses from anywhere.

the big problem our country has going forward as far as the job market is concerned.....is the baby boomer generation not retiring on time

the influx if immigrants is stopping on it own due to the whole global economic super indebted banking system farse imploding we saw a huge influx of illegal immigrants since 2002 that participated along in the housing bubble, did landscaping, and all that other nonsense....now that "incentive" is gone

the major issue i see is the baby boomer generation either didn't save up enough to retire soon and live till 80-90 or what they did save was too heavily invested in the stock market and now the looking at their 401ks and saying goddamnit i'm gonna have to work another 5 years now

the largest concentration of worker in america right now is near that retirement age but all the mistakes of the past are keeping them in the workforce longer rather than getting outta the way for the youngins....

When Social Security was implemented people didn't live much past 65 (on average). So the system was viable since the number of people who were collecting was less than the number of people supplying the funding. So the beauracracy of administering SS grew.

Now, people are living a bit longer. I think it's only fair that they work until they are 70 or maybe longer to make the system viable.

This only illustrates one of the problems with having the government have money to fix things. It creates a beauracracy that must be supported. When people are allowed to keep their own money it doesn't cost anything to have someone manage it.

that's not my point i was just talking about the personal side of savings and how its having a negative impact on are already fucked up job situation.....

obviously you can't live solely offa social security these days and the youngins better not be expecting a dime outta the pyramid scheme....that's a whole different discussion

my point i'm sure there were several baby boomers with say 600k or more in their 401k/ira/etc... 2 years ago that was shooting for retirement in a few years....that are now looking at their statements saying goddamnit i gotta work 5 more years at least now (assuming they can keep their job...alot are being forced into retirement).....and as the market continues to crumble....as you and I both think it will this is only gonna get worse.....

so the overall demand for jobs continues to stay strong....as the supply drops....
