Will Manny cut hair for Torre?

Posted: Monday August 04, 2008 07:31AM ET

Joe Torre asked Manny Ramirez to cut his hair, but I have this hunch it will never happen. Torre disagrees, so now one of us will be making a charitable donation. If Ramirez returns to Dodger Stadium a week from today to open the team's next home stand with all his hair, Torre said he would make a donation to Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. As part of the deal, Torre agrees he will say nothing more to Ramirez about his hair, believing Ramirez heard him the first time they talked. If Ramirez shows up to Dodger Stadium without the dreads, Page 2 will make a donation to the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation. As part of the deal, of course, I will say nothing more to Ramirez about his hair. But just between you and me, who is Torre kidding? You think he's going to bench Ramirez because the guy doesn't get his hair cut? -LA Times

Torre likes the clean look on the boys too?!

Thought that was only George that wanted that.

I wouldnt do it unless the owner asked me too. Takes forever to grow that crap, especially at his age.

I'm sure Boras will instruct Manny to tell Joe to go fly a kite.

He has to or go back on his promise to the LA Fans.

Quote from his welcome to LA press conference.

He’s going to cut his dreadlocks because, he said during a madcap introductory news conference behind home plate at Dodger Stadium on Friday, “They got some rules here, and I don’t want to be treated differently than anybody else.”
He paused, then concluded the thought.
“You’ve got to follow the rules,” he said, without a trace of irony.

Ramirez gave the sellout crowd a glimpse of what he does well and what he doesn’t during the Dodgers’ 2-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had two hits against Randy Johnson, and it’s obvious that his presence will strengthen an often anemic Dodgers lineup, even though he bounced into a double play with the tying run aboard in the ninth inning. But his half-hearted attempt to cut off a triple to left-center field by Chris Burke in the fifth inning was a sober reminder that he won’t improve an already dreadful Dodgers defense.

F**k you Joe!

God I can't stand people who believe they have the right to tell people how to dress or what to do with their personal characteristics.

Hey Joe, how about you lose about 89 pounds around that waistline!?

Manny looks like a goof. Joe needs to tell him to wear stirrups too.

Fish, is it Joe's rules or the team rules? I remember back when Marge owned the reds she had a rule of no facial hair, believe it or not, back then players feared marge and I don't believe anyone ever questioned it

Heeding the request of his manager, Manny Ramirez got a haircut, but as teammate Jeff Kent said with a smile, holding his thumb and forefinger about an inch apart: "Yeah, about that much."
"One inch, half an inch," Ramirez said. "It's still long. If I come back next year, it will be shorter."
The slugging outfielder, a free agent after this season, said a local barber did the job.
"One of my friends recommended him," Ramirez said, adding it took "maybe five minutes, 10 minutes."
After the Dodgers acquired Ramirez from the Boston Red Sox on July 31, manager Joe Torre said he asked Ramirez to "clean it up a little bit."
"I was in the principal's office right now," Ramirez said upon emerging from Torre's office some three hours before the Dodgers faced the Philadelphia Phillies. "[Torre] told me he's fine, for now."
When asked what that meant, Ramirez said: "Ask him. I've got to go stretch."
Said Torre: "He came in and showed me. As Billy Crystal said in 'Analyze That,' it's a process. He took a little bit off. It's within the rules of cleaning it up a little bit. Right now, it's around his shoulders. It's not covering his name up. We'll continue to monitor it."
Ramirez said he plans to get his next haircut before spring training.
"He haunts me with this," Torre said. "He says every time he gets a hit, it's the hair. I say it's the ability. He knows as well as everybody else around here that his ability is special. He's a character."
Ramirez's teammates didn't seem to care much.
"It's just some hair," outfielder Matt Kemp said.
"Ha, I doubt it," catcher Russell Martin replied when asked if the change might have a negative impact on Ramirez, who entered Thursday night's game hitting .467 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 12 games with the Dodgers.
