Don't know where Wil is, but I will give my 2 pennies worth...

PROS..

Beautiful, scenic country boarded by both the Atlantic and Pacific..

Good hearted people and very family orientated...

Great gorgeous women, if you treat them nice, they will treat you nice...but they are extremely jealous...

Beach resorts are great and if you like sailing and fishing, Costa Rica is for you...surfing, scuba diving, and snorkling are world class...

CONS...

Police are corrupt and they are never around, except the traffic cops who are always on the take...

No major highways to speak of....

Crime has gotten a lot worse in the past 5 years and many thieves are using weapons, you always have to look over your shoulder...

Be prepared to stand in lines at banks and customer service offices...

Rains constantly between July-November, pouring down rain and hard to play golf during October and November..

In the end you take the good with the bad, it beats living in the states with Uncle Sam breathing down your neck...but for visiting, Costa Rica is a must, just a real scenic country..

VD,

I noticed you and several others have mentioned that crime is on the rise down in CR, any particular cause and are those who don't look like locals subject to be at a greater risk?

VD real crime or shit like NES running around with his pants around his ankles?

That should be a felony...

The economy is just as bad here...break-ins are the norm...there are really no repercussions for the thieves down here...IF they get caught they are back on the street the next day...You just have to be aware of your surroundings...and leave your gold chains and rings at home, too much flash is not good...

My advice to tourists is don't act like the bigshot from the states...don't flash cash and treat the locals with respect...AND DO NOT RENT A CAR with the agency sticker on it...very easy target...
