Barry Melrose on ESPN actually thought it was an accident. He said that Wideman just got hit real and was dazed and didn't see the ref till it was too late, and put his arms up as a reflex at the last minute. C'mon Barry! I don't think it was premeditated, but he had just got his clock cleaned, and there was no call, so he went through ref on purpose out of frustration on the way to the bench.

He skated from too far away for it to be accidental. I could see if the ref was maybe 5-10 ft away after he got rocked but he had too much time to think about that hit.

The announcer was a Flames homer, and yes it look like a missed boarding call, or close to being a boarding call that was missed, and it looked painful.
