Jockey Calvin Borel, who won the Kentucky Derby 3 times, will be in Opelousas, Louisiana tonight to ride in the $100,00 Evangeline Downs Mile. Borel will be on Crystal Moment, a well Kentucky bred 4 year old colt, and up against 4/5 favorite Louisiana Bred STAR GUITAR, trained by native New Orleanian Al Stall, Jr., the trainer of many national Grade winners and trainer for Claiborne Farms. Whats Stall doing there as well. At least Stall has a Louisiana Bred Star Guitar who is undoubtedly is the best Louisiana Bred currently competing in the Pelican State.

Borel, on the other hand, has no real reason that seems to make sense. The purse is not that large, as Borel who rides all day today, for way more money than that, will catch a late evening flight and be in the paddock to mount Crystal Moment who is 4-1. Go figure.

My connections tell me that Crystal Moment has tons of ability, and can certainly win. But why Borel, and why this off the beaten path track this late at night (post time 9:43 P.M. central). Am I betting on Crystal Moment to upset Star Guitar? You bet I am. I know Calvin, and while I have not talked to him, I will be wagering on Crystal Moment. Calvin is coming here for a damn good reason, and not just for 10% of $100,000. My advice to all horse players, when you get Calvin Borel in a situation like this, take advantage of it. Il son't partis!

Alpine- He loves Cecil.....but not that much! And Cecil isn't coming to Opelousas for 10% 0f 60%, (if he wins) the trainer's share. Nice guess, but you are not close. I will find out the real reason, perhaps tonight, no later than Monday. My guess is, Star Guitar is NOT 100%, and the word just might be out. The owner of Star Guitar, Evelyn Benoit, would run Star Guitar if he had only 3 legs. Trust me, this Louisiana bred is NOT the horse he once was. The Borel horse is sitting on 3 wins in a row, and this Kentucky bred just might run out of the screen. It just does not add up. But I will be betting on Calvin.

jaws2357- we know that is definitely not the reason he is here, even though he will probably beat Star Guitar. And if he does not, I will lose more respect for Cecil. The world knows, Cecil was a terrible jockey, a worse trainer, and if it were not for Calvin, Cecil would be selling donuts at Tastee in Lafayette.

Not all that unusual for a jockey to do this. Corey Lanerie will probably be on the same flight with Calvin tonight as both are riding today at Ellis Park and Lanerie will be aboard Star Guitar tonight. Im not saying Calvin's horse wont win, but I wouldnt bet it ONLY because he making a special trip there. Lanerie is making the same trip so could use same logic for betting him...

LOL!!!! I could've ridden Star Guitar to victory tonight. No other horse (or jockey) was winning that race.
