My question is to any and all of you who actually give a rats ass about politics. Why are you so willing to follow these ass clowns ? Why are you so vociferous in your supoort of an individual meglomaniac looking only to place himself in the history books. If you turned your television off for a solid 3 months would you know who to hate ? ... there is a machine out there already in place , regardless of the slimeballs you send to the hill the world keeps turning ... it is long overdue that people realize freedom is inherent and that the only people able to take it away from you is governments .. STOP handing your inherent freedom over to meglomaniacs, turn your televisions off and get to know your neighbours ... I have a dream and it is call ANARCHY ... try it, you may like it.

Read a little Chomsky, there is a guy who knows the score.

Nite nite.

RESTRICTION OF FREEDOM IS UNAVOIDABLE IN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY

114. As explained in paragraph 65-67, 70-73, modern man is strapped down by a network of rules and regulations, and his fate depends on the actions of persons remote from him whose decisions he cannot influence. This is not accidental or a result of the arbitrariness of arrogant bureaucrats. It is necessary and inevitable in any technologically advanced society. The system HAS TO regulate human behavior closely in order to function. At work, people have to do what they are told to do, otherwise production would be thrown into chaos. Bureaucracies HAVE TO be run according to rigid rules. To allow any substantial personal discretion to lower-level bureaucrats would disrupt the system and lead to charges of unfairness due to differences in the way individual bureaucrats exercised their discretion. It is true that some restrictions on our freedom could be eliminated, but GENERALLY SPEAKING the regulation of our lives by large organizations is necessary for the functioning of industrial-technological society. The result is a sense of powerlessness on the part of the average person. It may be, however, that formal regulations will tend increasingly to be replaced by psychological tools that make us want to do what the system requires of us. (Propaganda [14], educational techniques, "mental health" programs, etc.)

Mr.Parsons,

I've taken some time to read a large part of what Teddy has to say. First off, I woud like to thank you for the link to such an interesting read. Secondly, I am truly at a loss as to whether I should be considered insane as he, or he is as acutely insightful and intellectually gifted as I.

(Although my tongue is partially planted in my cheek, I am not entirely kidding here.)

It will take a couple more readings before I get a true handle on this guy, but thus far, I feel as though this guy was intercepting my brain waves and putting them to paper.

From past posts of yours it is apparent you have a firm grasp of that branch of the social sciences known as 'psychology' ... are you trying to tell me something or am I just a paranoid freak.

Peace.

Meanstreak,

I'm always glad to acquaint people with the UM if I can see brain activity on a similar wavelength.

The way I see it, 95% of people are so deeply involved in the workings of the big societal machine that they are not even aware of it. Some are happy there, others are not, but there is no strong desire to break away for fear of a worse fate on the other side.

Of the other 5% some (like me and the Unabomber, Bobby Fischer, some of my buddies and others) are physically in the industrialized world, but are emotionally, mentally and spiritually detached from it. This is based on firm convictions and usually comes with a well-defined philosophy of life which, while far from being perfect, is at least internally consistent and serves as a base from which everyday actions can be derived.

Also in that 5% are people like yourself, who are feeling the pressure by society, have needs for autonomy that render society evil and repressive (a very logical and reasonable position IMO), and are struggling hard to piece it all together and come up with a coherent philosophy of life that can stand up to scrutiny and is consistent with observed external phenomena.

Any paranoia you may have comes from proponents of industrial society who would like to label you as "ill" or "insane" to try to coerce you to act in ways which benefit society -- ie. obediently work in some 9-5 job, be docile, respect authority, and accept the little dog biscuits you get in exchange for your loyalty. If you can be sure that someone is on the other side -- ie. respects the needs of individuals first and foremost and believes the system should be structured around people and not the other way around, then you can be sure that this person does not consider you "insane", rather he considers society inhumane and has some empathy for any psychological stress this may cause.

If there is anything I am trying to tell you it is that I think you would benefit by reading the UM many times and doing some deep meditation on it from time to time. It did wonders for me and sure sped up the process in forming my current world view and philosophy of life which I am quite happy with and look forward to passing down to my children and my children's children.

Plenty of smart people have gone bonkers over the years.
The brain is a powertool that can destroy you.
Thinking too much can be seriously bad for your mental health.

On the other side of the coin, an exceptional brain/ exceptional thinking can provide great insight into alternative perspectives/solutions.

Its a question of personal priorities
