How much money was wasted in making all this tuff pink. Added up it had to be a pile of money. Why do they think that wearing pink will help anyone. Take all the money that was spent on that and donate it to breast cancer. Wearing pink to show you did something isn't as important as donating the money

It is a very very important cause that would be much further along with that extra money.

Agree completely.

It is similiar to when people do charity events but spend tons of money on the event, instead of utilizing it to the cause. If people want to help, let them do it without a big hub bub.

Do people working on cancer research actually want to find a cure?

What would they do then?

I think that they might become losers like me

No, they are evil sadists that like to watch womens bodies rot away with breast cancer.

I wonder if you think out all your posts before you post.

You know what it does to you?
Made my ex 7 years ago cry like a baby 12 hours a day.
She was 27.
My wife's mother life was taken by cancer, and it makes my wife cry every Christmas.

Are you sure it doesn't pay for itself in the advertising/awareness that it raises? I really doubt the pink articles of clothing were that expensive. Probably more than offset by the donations that it generates. But keep on acting like you know the numbers when you don't.

It brings awareness to the cause.

Let's say they donated all the money spent on cleats, wristbands, etc. for a donation. Say it costs $50,000 to do all that stuff.

I would be willing to bet that by spending $50,000 for the pink equipment will bring back at LEAST $100,001.

AWARENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah people need to be told about breast cancer. See you are one of those elitist that wants to make sure other people are AWARE how much you care. I can see them wearing a patch on the uniform and a sticker on the helmet but all this other shit is just useless.

Oh look at me look at me aren't I special I care.

Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities

Guessing they'll end up donating 20x what they paid for the pink gear after the auctions. Satisfied???

Correct

Anyone with significant experience in advertising or promotion understands the bottom line plus from such exposure.

Meanwhile, anyone who wants to contribute $$ to help further the research while not wearing anything pink is free to do so.

Win Win for all concerned

Who the hell would want to buy pink gloves or shoes from some nobody player. Give me a break. There was a better way to do this. Like I said put a patch on the uniform and a sticker on the helmet.

The stuff had to cost way way more than 50,000.

55 players x 28 teams = 1,540
say at a cost of $50 (low side)= 77,000

So there goes that argruement. See I bring facts and you bring watm and fuzzy feelings.

So add in the gloves , the hates, the arm bands and all the other shit. That is a huge huge price tag.

Why didn't they have a auction of signed footballs and jerseys during the game. They could have said the NFL would match the donations. Hmm they would have gotten traffic to the NFL.com and also would have raised a ton ton of money.

They could have lifted the blackout rule for just this week. Everyone would have been the winner. Instead they just look silly with all the pink.

#1. most of all that stuff is donated by sponsors

2. just because those gloves might cost us $50 at the mall or sports store doesnt mean it didnt cost the company $4 to make it in china, so your $77000 is probably far off.

3.the gloves, hats, stickers, etc. Is to remind people its breat cancer month and promote the cause. Try to bring in donations, maybe push people into going in for screenings, etc

They auction off all the stuff they wear and they get millions for it. League wide that is. plus all the stuff they are wearing is donated by the companies that make it. Great cause and fundraiser.

Trust me I worked with a MLB team on this one time and they got $600 for the bats of scrubs and as much as $20k for some of the top players. There is no cost to the team for the stuff it is all donated.

I realy do hope so. I am not trying tobe a dick. I just hate it when like the rich people need a red carpet dinner or some bullshit like that just to make themselves feel good. The awareness bit does trouble me though. If women do not know the dangers a breast cancer I am not sure what could help them. My wife gets checked regular.

you coudnt be more wrong here TheRightSide

its not only women that need to be aware of breast cancer, its their sons, brothers, spouses, fathers etc.

also when it comes to money, for reasons already stated above, this campaign will make a fortune.

I agree RightS. , its the feel good mentality of it all. Hell if its really that big an issue why isnt Congress throwing a Trillion at it? Banks are worth saving with tax payer dollars but lives are not?
We're saving (lol) 2 car companies and funding a half dozen new ones at a cost of over 50 Billion all together and Cancer isnt worth a quick 25 Bill??????
We care more about jobs or lives? Cus we're doing little about either....

By the way does Cancer kill more people than AIDS?...i guess not..

President Obama’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 detailed federal budget request, released on May 7, includes an estimated $25.9 billion for combined domestic and global HIV/AIDS activities.1 Domestic HIV/AIDS is funded at $19.4 billion and global at $6.5 billion.2 The FY 2010 request represents a 4% increase ($1 billion) over FY 2009 funding, which totaled $24.8 billion.

The director of the National Cancer Institute said there's little chance of fresh federal funding until 2011, so research -- including some on long-term cancer survivors and some research on breast and prostate cancer -- will be scaled back, according to MedPage Today.
NCI Director John Niederhuber, right, also said none of the presidential candidates "has a real commitment to biomedical research."

The institute's budget has been steady at $5.8 billion

PPP, hell will freeze over before congress ever gets their priorities straight.

And this is not a knock against any particular party it's a knock on ALL of them.

The fact that you (TRS) look for the negative in almost everything shines a bright light on your personality. To automatically look for the bad in any good deed or try and break down the costs of gloves and hats vs. the good will behind it, speaks volumes about you.

I'm pretty sure that TRS is not quite the Negative Nancy (heh).....but this sure was an odd topic on which to get overly caught up.

And only PPP could take such a topic and turn it into a rant against the Obama administration and against AIDS research.
