Within a day of the horrific multiple bombings in London, the G8 announced a $3B grant to the Palestinian Authority. The symbolism of this connection may be lost on some Westerners, but it clearly sent a powerful message to terrorists and potential terrorists: namely, that terrorism works.

There were no grants announced to the Tibetans, who have been occupied more brutally and for a longer period of time than the Palestinians. The Tibetans, however, have never resorted to terrorism.

The Palestinian Authority, and its leaders, are the godfathers of international terrorism. They developed airplane hijacking into a high art. They invented the high-profile murder of athletes and other prominent public figures. Were it not for their employment of terrorism, the Palestinian cause would today be regarded as the fifth-rate human rights issue that it rightfully is. But because the Palestinian leadership has always used terrorism (from the 1920's on) as the tactic of first resort, their cause has received worldwide recognition.

The primary cause of terrorism is not occupation, humiliation, or desperation. If it were, the Tibetans would be the greatest terrorists. The primary cause of terrorism is that it works. And it works because the craven international community gives into it and rewards it. It also works because too many Islamic leaders praise it and too few condemn it. Terrorism will continue as long as potential terrorists believe they will benefit from using that tactic.

The "Palestinians" are nothing but Arabs misplaced from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc .... Israel was brutally attacked in 1948 and her wars have been wars of survival

Why should Israel give up any land? Hell, this is land they won in wars and should not have to give up land anymore than the USA should be giving land up to Mexico ....

Israel is under constant barrage and is surrounded by 22 Arab nations intent on their destruction ....if this country had to endure what Israel does on a regular basis Bush would have nuked someone by now

Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians ,Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc. .... Israel's boundaries were determined by the United Nations when it adopted the partition resolution in 1947. In a series of defensive wars, Israel captured additional territory. On numerous occasions, Israel has withdrawn from these areas. As part of the 1974 disengagement agreement, Israel returned territories captured in the 1967 and 1973 wars to Syria. Under the terms of the 1979, Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty, Israel withdrew from the Sinai peninsula for the third time

The Palestinians are the aggressors; they started the conflict, and they purposely drive it forward with fresh killing on an almost-daily basis. The Palestinians regard this second intifada not as a sporadically violent protest movement, but as a war, with the clear strategic aim of forcing a scared and emotionally exhausted Israel to surrender on terms that would threaten Israel's viability.
As a tactic in this strategy, the Palestinians will not fight Israeli forces directly but instead have concentrated their efforts on murdering Israeli civilians. The greater the number, the more pathetically vulnerable the victims--disco-goers, women and children in a pizza restaurant--the better. Israel has acted defensively in this conflict; and while Israeli forces accidentally killed Palestinian civilians, their planned lethal attacks have all been aimed only at Palestinian military and terror-group leaders.

I guess this belongs under the category of if you say it the idiots will believe it.

Following the first World War, which ended in 1918, the Holy Land or Palestine was governed by Britain under a league of Nations mandate. Terrrorists (freedom fighters) were trying to establish the Jewish state of Israel. These (Jewish) terrorists operating in the 20's and 30's were Palestinians only in the sense that they lived in a land known, at the time, as Palestine.

If I can jump in on that one. The failure can clearly be laid upon Yasser Arafat who saw that his personal power would decline in an independent Palestine. To think that he and Menachem Begin shared the Noble Peace Prize is an affront to humanity.

"Land for peace" has often been a somewhat less than a genuine offer.

The best opportunity for peace, in my opinion, was lost immediately following the 1967 war. A Palestinian state could have been established out of Jordan on the East bank of the Jordan while the thorny problem of Jerusalem could have been handled creatively by declaring that it was a Holy City belonging to humanity and installing a UN administration (much like DC has its own administration) and declaring it a free city.

If this wasnt an ugly tragic situation, i would be rolling on the floor in a fit of laughter...Its amazing to see one individual have such clarity regarding certain issues, then when faced with a parallel scenario that probably hits closer to home, out goes the clarity and in comes innuedo, half truths and biased arguments.

Doc Mercer is not going to admit the wrongs of Israel (like he is very astute at excluding the fact that Palestinians in Israel actually live in an apartheid state with no political representation under conditions that would totally be unacceptable here in the USA by any stretch of ones imagination.)

He will go on a rant about Abbas apparently being a mass murderer and appropriately leave out sharons past which is way worse and bloodier by comparison.

He will gloss over facts like jews actually got palestinians out of their homes, put them in trucks and trucked them right out of Israel. And all this in violation of several un laws that prohibited such illegal behaviour..


Hell one of the funnier posts is how he tries to justify the murder of innocent palestinians who happen to be at the market when an Israeli helicopter decides to drop a bomb on a suspected terrorist. Apparently this is an acceptable form of war fare. And the palestinians should not be angry when their wives, mothers, daughters, sons, fathers, are blown to smitherens and simply labeled "collateral damage"..I am sure any human being living under such a constand threat would not resort to the nastiest form of vengence available to them...After all, terrorists all wear turbans, pray to Allah and dont fly f16 jets.
I guess the rest of the world could simply rectify this by calling for Palestinians to stop suicide bombings and offer to give them high class helicopters and missiles so they can pick out "acceptable targets" with out blowing up the local down town pizzeria.


Even funnier yet is how people talk about Yasser Arafat and how he turned down this and that offer.....(Doesnt this sound like that story we often read about in the gambling forum about this and that guy who was robbed blind by a book like Royal and then forced to take bread crumbs as compensation and forced to sign some gun point agreement?) Really think about it...how different was that offer?
Funnier yet, people who always bring up this nonsense, tend to always leave out the fact that Arafat would have had his head cut off by the very same people he represented if he accepted that offer because it was a bad deal for them. They prefer to go on and on about how he never wanted to share the nobel prize or something totally out of whack!
Incidentally, Arafat is now dead, if it was true that he rejected that offer in spite of what his people wanted, why isnt it back on the table now?

hey i am just asking for fair and equitable comparisons of the views from both sides. you all cant stand here and call for justice and equality for all while supporting the opposite in another nation...kind like that past hypocrit of a president from our own ugly past known for claiming all men are borne equal while owning quite a sizeable number of slaves...

If palestinians and jewish lives are all worth the same, then its better to come up with viable practicle solutions to their problems rather than explaining away why its ok for israel to drop 5000 bombs public buildings that are believed to house one terrorist then turn around to whine and cry about a suicide bomber who took out a whole bus load of people...

DEATH IS DEATH...PAIN AND SUFFERING CAUSED FROM IT IS EQUAL...dont think you get to label it thus forgive one group and punish another for doing the exact same thing
