How did the Big East have 2 New Year's bowl teams?
It is bad enough that the BCS takes the Big East Champ, why did WV get another New Year's game? How many years will they lose by double digits to an ACC team in a bowl? If anything, BC should have been in the Gator bowl.
Let's recap the Big East so far:
Syracuse LOST by 38 to a 6-5 ACC team
Connecticut WON vs MAC team with a broken handed QB
Boston Coll. WON vs. a 6-5 ACC team
West Virginia LOST by 12 to an ACC team in a bowl again (Rodriguez is 0 for 3 in bowls, hasnt been close yet)
Pittsburgh record vs the above group was 2-2. Not 4-0 like a legitimate BCS team would have been. Let's look at Pitt's record away from home:
at Connecticut L 17-29
at Temple W 27-22
at Syracuse L 31-38
at Notre Dame W 41-38
at South Florida W 43-14
So their biggest win was beating Notre Dame that ended up 6-6. There is no scenario where Pitt matches up with Utah. Sure they could cover a 2 TD spread if they get a bunch of turnovers and some favorable officiating. But I see Pitt risking the turnovers because they will be throwing against one of the toughest pass defenses they have seen this year. The intangibles such as motivation favor Utah - both teams are losing their coaches so that is a wash. Utah is playing for a perfect season, Pitt is lucky to even be in this game. If they get blown out their season is still a success beyond their wildest dreams especially when a few weeks ago they were fighting to even get to a bowl game. Utah played a pretty weak schedule like Pitt did but Utah 's SMALLEST margin of victory this year was 14
