Why don't top-tier books advertise in the football magazines?

Seroius question. I do see a lot of ads from books that have bad reputations here (BOS). Never see any from Pinnacle, Oly, etc. Why?

Good question FW, my hunch says that because being unlike dogs that need to lick their own balls..Kings just have servants come to service them.

The best of the best have done the math(based on past trials), and it probably just doesn't add up for most of them..depending on the product or market?

I think because the smaller books actually own many of those magazines and run their ads in there.... and then prop their own books as tops...the very elite books don't need to trick people with bogus rankings in these magaizines

Not really JMAN, some of the big magazines have ads from the lower tier books.

This may be a dumb question, but why don't sites like this, MW, Covers, etc advertise in those magazines. I would think it is a very lucrative untapped market. I think many people who buy magazines like Street and Smith, etc may not know sites like this exist.

Also, if a Pinnacle advertises in one of those magazines, they would get the squarest of the square and make even more money, right?

Actually you are all wrong....(thats if you are talking about magazines published in the USA)

For the last two years, the FBI has been targeting promoters of off shore gambling and has arrested and charged a group touting Betonsports that was fast becoming a strong force on the American market..

I recently read a headline about one organization suing the Feds for the right to promote off shore gambling under the banner of freedom of speech..

In my current issue of Athlon NFL magazine i remember only finding flyers for
poker websites. (i threw away most of the flyers since i am never interested in that crap) But i have still have the magazine and i can only find one sports betting ad from Bosgaming.net (same as BOS).

Its a grey area and as such most big companies choose not to mess around too much until some one challenges these rules... (Consequently all off shore betting radio ads have been eliminated in the USA..at least in my community)
Only touts and fantasy foot ball remain..
I dont know what magazines you guys have but the reason smaller books advertise in them is because they are willing to take the risk unlike the bigger books who have enough capital to advertize on line and through junk mail.

Matter of fact, off shore betting along with porn was supposed to be a major focus of this Bush government but along came Mr "I wanna blow you up" and after that it was lets play "liberators in some dung heap of an arab state".

So thank Saddam and Mr "Cave dweller" for saving your livelihood....

I think this is the main reason. Most publications just don't won't the risk of the feds coming down on them. About 2 years ago a local sportsradio station was advertising BOS about 5 times every hour, but they got a lot of heat from the Attourney General (i think the A.G or someone from the gov't) and pulled all of the ads.

My understanding is most advertising falls into two categories of placement. Some magazines are aimed at the mass market and therefore only are the target of the square books like BOS looking to get people who have never placed an offshore bet before. The second group of magazines are owned or in bed with touts and they want to do affiliate hookups. I don't think Pinny wants to deal with affiliates who might bring them $100 bettors.

J-man you are correct...not for the "newsstand magazines" but the free mailers that come out are 100% sportsbook owned

There is one particular one put out by the VIP group...it is very obvious because every advertisement in there is for their group...but a casual bettor would not notice b/c they might not realize VIP, gameday, 5-card, etc are all in the same group

But this is a fairly cheap and effective marketing tool
