Because of their lack of character....and their coach's reluctance to DO anything about it.

DE ROBERT AYERS (8/05) Got in fight with Omega Psi Phi fraternity at UT. Originally charged with aggravated assault. Prosecutors reduced the charge to misdemeanor assualt, forced to pay court costs and restitution to victim. Once paid, his record will be expunged. Fulmer suspended him for 2 games (these are NOT consecutive games, these are games Fulmer selected....vs. UAB and vs. Vanderbilt).

LB JARED MAYO (8/05) GOt in fight with Omega Psi Phi fraternity at UT. Originally charged with aggravated assault (see Robert Ayers). Prosecutors dropped all charges because 'witness did not coorperate with prosecutors'. Fulmer did not punish Mayo.

LB DANIEL BROOKS (12/04) Complaint to Knoxville PD stated Brooks had punched another UT student in the face and bloodied him. Reported to the Tennessean newspaper that up to 20 other Vols players were present at the time of the incident. Coach Fulmer said the matter was under investigation, but there were no suspensions for the SEC Championship game vs. Auburn

LB DANIEL BROOKS (part II)(Summer 05) Brooks pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license and three other charges were dismissed by a Knox County General Sessions Court judge (Driving with a suspended license, running a red light, and jaywalking). Fulmer suspended Brooks for the first 3 games of the season (vs. UAB,UF, LSU)

TONY MCDANIEL (1/1/05) Sucker-punched Deshaun Goodrich (UT student) during a pickup basketball game. He was knocked unconcious and broke several bones in his face, including his eye socket and sinus cavity. "He'll have a metal plate in his mouth the rest of his life," said Goodrich's mother. Arrested and charged with aggravated assault. No punishment as of yet.

WR BRET SMITH and QB BRENT SCHAEFFER (4/10/05) Tag-teamed a student, opening a cut on his forehead that required four staples to close in a dormitory fight. Both pled guilty to misdemeanor assault & ordered to pay restitution. Smith was suspended from the team. Schaeffer left the program voluntarily.

CB ANTWAN STEWART (5/03) Accused of raping a 16 yr old girl in the dormitory. Day after filing the report, Fulmer and his attorney met with the girl's friend who visited the dormitory with her. Reports began to surface that the apparent rapee was lying. No charges from the police. Fulmer supposedly punished Stewart for using bad judgment, but the punishment was never specified.

WR MONTRELL JONES (8/02) Charged with marijuana possession. Pled not guilty, but agreed to seek drug counseling as part of a Jefferson County (KY) diversion program. Fulmer 'punished' Jones, but the punishment was never specified. In April, 2003, Fulmer dismissed Jones from the team just two weeks after being indefinitely suspended in connection with a failed drug test. Fulmer did not expound as to why the player was dismissed, but Tennesse's athletic department policy states than an athlete failing 3 drug tests is automatically dismissed. On top of the two incidents listed above, he was suspended two other times for unspecified violations of team policy.

RB ONTERRIO SMITH Hit his daughter's mother in a domestic violence spat.

WR ERIC LOCKE (Former Bama player transferred to UT) Suspended by the university and kicked off the football team. Locke withdrew $2400 from the ATM account of another student without permission. No charges were filed. Rumors sqirled that Fulmer having illegal contact with Locke’s father while Locke still at Alabama, to Locke’s father working for a UT booster. Locke was supplied with a vehicle while playing at Tennessee. For this, Tennessee penalized itself two football scholarships. UT also banned two boosters from contributing to the athletic department for three years.

G OFEN OFENHUESL (10/00) Twice accused of 'dirty play' by an opponent and could face discipline from the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina nose guard Cleveland Pinkney accused him of diving for his left ankle from behind and later throwing an illegal chop block. Georgia defensive tackles Marcus Stroud and Richard Seymour made similar complaints a month earlier.

CHRIS BROWN (10/04) Cited for misdemeanor shoplifting at a Knoxville Mall. Brown was accussed of trying to steal a jersey.

JAMES BANKS (multiple) In 2004, cited for underage drinking and violating city's noise ordinance by Knoxville PD. In spring of 2003, he was suspended afer he was involved in a verbal altercation with a woman at the student life center. Later in 2004, Banks violated UT's substance abuse policy by attempting to taint a drug test with masking agents. He had already failed one drug test during his stay at UT.

MONDRE DICKERSON In 2004, charged with raping a 30 yr old woman. He was suspended from the Vols' the previous year after being accused of another rape. No charges were filed in that case.

REGGIE COBB Dismissed from UT for failing his 3rd drug test.

DWAYNE GOODRICH (8/02) Convicted of criminally negligent homicide after he struck and killed two good samaritans in his BMW and then drove away. The victims ahd been trying to pull out another motorist from his burning car. Goodrich was on his way home from a topless bar. Received seven years in prison.

PEYTON MANNING (1996) Subject of a sexual harassment suit (this arose again in 2003) Showed his naked buttocks to a female trainer and attempted to 'sit on her face'. The suit against him and the university was settled for $300K. In 2003, in a book, Manning claimed he had mooned another player and that the trainer had a 'vulgar mouth'. She sued again and settled, but the amount was sealed by the court.

PHILLIP FULMER (present) The graduation rate for UT football players in 1995 was 8%. Fulmer claims that this number is slanted because many players cut short their college days for the NFL. Five of the 15 UT football freshmen did indeed move on to the NFL. If the others had graduated, the rate would have been 67%. His reasoning and his math both suck.

VICTOR MCCLURE (2004) Arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest on campus. Two months later he was involved in a domestic disupte where he was reported to have shoved his girlfriend into a wall.

P BRITTON COLQUITT (2004) Arrested for the 3rd time in 7 months for underage possession of alcohol. Colquitt attempted to flee police, but was apprehended. Received a misdemeanor citation.

BRANDON JOHNSON (2004) Fired a gun into the air near campus. Arrested and charged with felony reckless endangerment. His pal, defensive back Chris Heath, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a firearm.

TEE MARTIN (2002) Former sportswriter Wayne Rowe told the Mobile Register that he wired $4,500 to Martin on behalf of insurance agent Dianne Sanford in February 1999, while Martin was still a member of the Vols. However, the NCAA enforcement staff found that neither Rowe nor Sanford was considered a booster at the time and that no one considered a booster was involved. UT received no punishment.

Come on man! How far are you going back? Reggie Cobb, that was like 1989-90 . 15 years ago - give it up
OOOOH - Peyton Manning mooned a chick in a locker room while she was meat watching. I have some pretty good sources and dug up a few demerits he got for chewing gum in class that you forgot to mention

Jarod Mayo was not the person and had many witnesses to prove it, that is why he was not punished by the law or Fulmer - He didn't do anything!

Britton Colquit was not part of the team for 2 of the incidents

Victor McClure was proven to have a chemical imbalnce that was proven by doctors. That was a health issue - no joke. I think all charges were dropped b/c that was a strange incident that was obvious something was wrong - he ended up taking all of his clothes off down at the rec center and was saying weird shit. It is a sad incident if anything.

Duane Goodrich was not a part of the Vols when that happened. The only incident here at UT was when the Rocky Top Market there on the strip wouldn't serve him Chicken wings at 3am and he started raising hell saying"do you know who I am" they called the cops.

Onterrio Smith wasn't a Vol when that happend

Fulmer did not impose the penalty b/c of a car give to Locke, there is no proof of that at all. His father Juicy Locke was the cause of most of the problems. HE was contacting Fulmer, trying to set him up

Bring on more BS spin. I will see you Sept 24 and take it out on the field. bring your A game, you're gonna need it. You will need it again in Atlanta for your rematch in the championship game

H: because UK hasn't beat them in football in like 25 years....UK beats them in B Ball ALL THE TIME, and UT makes a big deal of it on the rare occasion they do beat UK (refs give them EVERY call at home)

I like you ego, but you are mistaken, I have been going to most of the home games for 25 years, I have season tickets. WE DO NOT GET GOOD CALLs AT HOME FROM THE REFS. YEA YEA the FLA GAME. BAd call. I will offset that one with the Jabar Gaffney no catch 2 years previous. But EVERY call? Bullshit's ass!
The Vols have received more apologies from the SEC than any other team by double as of late. Most of those games were at home.

I just don't like ignorant bandwagon propaganda from those that don't know what the hell they are talking about. Most of my comments are common knowledge to those that follow the Vols.
The rest comes from ex-players and relatives in the sports information department(I guess some of the 6% that graduated) and coaching staff.

Still waiting on Kojack's facts and cowardly acts :icon_conf let's hear it. c'mon

Mr Reb - not all are public, but some are. Bobby Gaston has come out publicly in the past and admitted mistakes his refs had made and apologized to coaches and teams publicly.
my statement came from the horse's mouth(an SEC official) regarding the bad calls in TN games. SEC officials have been terrible the last couple of years in my opinion - not just towards Tennessee.
Coaches submit their wrongs every week after the previous game and as you know it is futile. They can't go back and change the outcome, but sometimes refs are reprimanded or disallowed to ref certain teams due to coaches complaints that the ref is "after" them.

I hate them because every once and awhile they try to challange Michigan for the attendance record. Plus that stupid dog. It's worse then Uga.

hating only hurts the hater

stupid dog? Football teams have had mascots since the beginning of football. Actually I think it started with military units back before Christ fighting wars. They had mascots, a lot of which were dogs. But I digress
Ours is a dog, which is real - nothing eccentric, crazy, or out of the ordinary. We have a lot of raccoons and raccoon hunters. Therefore we have a blue tick coon hound breed as our mascot, not an imaginary animal that we wished lived here like yall

<!-- END NAVIGATION --><!-- CONTENT -->History of the Wolverine Mascot at UM
Since the earliest days of recorded University of Michigan history (as early as 1861), the students and alumni have been referring to themselves as "Wolverines". While this moniker has proven successful for over a hundred years of intercollegiate sports, what is the reason for it? And moreover, what exactly is a wolverine?

photoWolverine.jpg

The wolverine, a member of the weasel family. The simplest reason for the wolverine nickname would be that the animal was abundant in Michigan for some time. However, all evidence points otherwise, as there has never been a verified trapping of a wolverine inside the state's borders, nor have skeletal remains of a wolverine been found in the 96,705 square miles that comprise Michigan. In fact, there had never been a verified sighting of a wild wolverine inside Michigan until February 2004.

LOL.....you MUST have gone to school there.

For the 22 instances of poor moral judgement, you provided a retort to 7 of them, and summarily labeled my post as B.S. spin. What about the other FIFTEEN? Apparently, being able to rationalize 5 cases out of 22 is a source of pride on Rocky Top.....ROTFLMFAO!!

OH, and please don't tell LSU to bring their "A" game....we're at home, so you better not expect to bring that attitude. Let's see now, how has Tennessee done against LSU lately.....HaHaHaHaHa......TIGER BAIT!

I like you, too Volhound

I was referring to basketball, UT vs. UK, two straight years a UT player went into the lane early to rebound an intentional FT miss and got the offensive board. UT is notorious for being a tough place to play, and it's sure not because their team is any good.

You guys made a good hire getting Bruce Pearl though. If you don't run him outta town after 2 years, you guys will be in the NCAA Tourney on a regular basis.

As a Gator fan, I hate them due to the disrespect they gave us in the 90's. We'd kick their ass in September....then they'd go on to a 10-1 or 9-2 season, winning their last 4 or so games against Vandy and Kentucky type teams....then claim, "We're the best team in the conference.....we just played UF too early!" Now, in 2001 they got their wish! The game was rescheduled due to 9/11. UT was a 17 point dog and Spurrier was more worried about FSU's Darnell Dockett intentionally injuring our starting TB (Earnest Graham) then preparing for the game!

I was in Knoxville in 1998. They won that game thanks to 5 UF turnovers (we missed the tying FG in overtime). You would have thought it was the end of the world. The biscuitheads stormed the field, tore down the goal posts, and acting like a bunch of untamed assholes! BTW, you will NEVER see the field stormed in Gainesville. The security is top notch and it just doesn't happen! Why can't other schools do the same? I've seen Auburn, LSU, Miss State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and FSU storm the field. It's bullshit! "Act like you've been there before!"

exactly coach, that's the way they act when they beat UK in basketball once every 10 years. They'll get every freaking call, win the game by 1 point and then act like they're in the SEC Elite

Volhound,

Let's clarify the Gaffney catch. First of all, it was third down. UF had another play. Or they could have tied w/ a FG. Second, the replay showed he caught it for, how long? No matter how long it was....THE BALL CROSSED THE PLANE when it was in his hands for that .25 seconds. TOUCHDOWN!

Now, the 2004 game: The UT DB slaps Dallas Baker in the helmet....RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REF! W/ the ref watching Baker slaps the UT player in the helmet. Penalty: Florida. And Florida ONLY. 15 yards. But, the KICKER here is that the refs STOPPED THE CLOCK. THAT is what made it even more "home cookin'". Even if UT had gotten the penalty (which they did!) the clock should have started running IMMEDIATELY. Not when UF snapped it on 4th down to punt. This cost UF about 25-30 seconds....and gave UT the time they needed to get in FG range. Yes, it was a hell of a kick....but it NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

See!?! THIS is what people hate about UT. They don't want to admit they "got lucky". UT fans say, "...we outplayed them....we deserved it....we were the better team....". Not on that night my friend! The refs stole that game!

Coach

read post #22 where I say that was a bad call

I have no problem admitting we got lucky in that game or any game, hell we got lucky in 98, but when a team put themselves in a position to win at the end of a game -anything can happen
I have seen a lot of bad calls in that stadium for both teams and feel I am fairly objective when it comes to calling it like I see it. As a fan one tends to look at them as making up for one another and hoping it all evens out.

For the record, that one call didn't cause yall to lose the last 3 of 4 games against the Vols

I retorted to those 7 off the top of my head and don't rationlize any of the actions all 22 were accused of. I will make no excuses for them, but I will stand up when I read inaccuracies meant to put my team down.
7 out of 22 means that 31.8% percent of your accusations weren't accurate or applicable, probably more.
So I will retract what I said and apologize and say that at least 31.8% of your post is BS spin
Good luck to yall this year, I always pull for yall in the west and hope to meet up in Atlanta. There looks to be no competition for you in the west, so it should be smooth sailing.

Here's the latest thing that has me irritated with Phil..............

http://web.knoxnews.com/lauren/video_wmv.shtml

McDaniel was pissed because he thought he had been fouled earlier, and the other team did not "honor" the foul he claimed. So he said, in so many words, that he was going to "lay out the next person who fouls me."

As you can see from the tape, there is no way to tell who may have fouled him because there were several guys going for the ball. So he picked out the first guy he saw and fractured four bones in his face, plus two eye socket bones. A few inches higher and the guy would have been killed.....and for what?

how has Tennessee done against LSU lately.....HaHaHaHaHa......TIGER BAIT!
from LSUPete

I forgot to answer your question Pete

I will do you one better and tell you how LSU has done against the Vols

if we go back the last 6 games - LSU has lost the last 4 of 6
if we go back 4 games - they are 2-2
overall LSU is 5-19-3 against the Vols

THAT is how we have done lately

There seems to be a lot of anti-TN people out there. I was wondering why:

A. Fulmer
B. Fight Song
C. School Colors
D. "Teflon Vols" (skated around some rules violations)
E. Overrated
F. No reason, just don't like 'em

ALL of the above.

Tennessee doesn't seem to get more hate than any other big time school. Miami, Florida St, Ohio St, Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma all have their share of haters. Everybody always wants to knock the big boys down a few pegs.
