why do people attack our health care system yet support our educational system?

when attacking healthcare, they often times cite some very subjective worldwide study and they always complain about costs. The USA rankings are always dragged down in those worldwide studies because of costs. Our costs are higher because we provide health care on demand from cradle to grave, we give care to the elderly when others shut them off, we have a massive obesity problem which drags our numbers down in more ways than one, we have excessive drug use, very high inner city crime rates and 12 to 20 million illegals, all of which drains our system across the boards. Yet we still managed to cure illnesses. I'll suggest that no healthcare system in the world can do what we've done with such obstacles. Yet we need to change it, it's to costly, it's not fair yada yada yada

now consider education. We're near the bottom of educational rankings when compared to other industrial nations using objective measurements (as opposed to subjective). That's right, we're near the bottom across the boards based on test scores. Pretty much black and white, their whole world is black and white except when it should be. And you know what else? We spend far more money than everybody else, far far far more money overall and per pupil. It's also very easy to argue our system "is not fair" either, they do such all the time. Yet liberals argue we can't change our educational system.

The more one learns, the more they'll see just how fucked up liberal logic is. It's all assbackwards

How long can we drag them along? Will they eventually drag us under and we all drown, or do we cut bait before that happens? Unfortunately, cutting bait is not much of an option.

I suppose we'll bottom out, then much like a junkie we'll decide our faith by deciding where we go from there.

not sure why you are starting with the premise that the vast majority of americans believe our public school system is decent. it's terribly flawed and in extreme need of fixing but as long as it's run in the world of unions it won't be changing anytime soon.

where did you get my premise from? or where did you get "that" premise from?

My argument is that liberals defend our educational system while attacking our healthcare system which is a case of incredible hypocrisy when they present their arguments. And I know labor unions are at the root of this problem.

No doubt. It has been going downhill for quite a while now. It is all about unions. I would like to see the national results on testing if you eliminated all of the non-public schools.

Because the government has a 99% monopoly on the educational system and the only problem (according to the dimwit) is that more money is needed.

Willie, with my wife being a public school teacher, I will defend the educational system. Is it flawed? Yes. Are there bad teachers? Yes. But, I know I'm married to a very good educator who cares about the kids as much as their education.

From her mouth, the biggest problem we face as a society in regards to education are the parents of these kids. You either have single parents who don't have the time to spend on the kid's education or two parents who don't give a fuck. Do you know how many times she's had a parent-teacher conference arranged and the parent doesn't even show up? No call or email or anything. Just doesn't show up. She then reschedules with them and they fail to show up again. Do you know how many kids just miss 20-25 days a year and when she asks her admin why, they don't have an answer? It's just accepted?

Trust me, we have some good educators out there that are receiving no help from mom and dad. They treat it like school is a babysitting service.

Enfuego, me too, same stories

I am in no way shape or form trying to throw every educator under the bus, it's the system, the management, the general lack of accountability and the labor unions

there are more quality educators than not

I watched "Chicago" on CNN. Liz Dozier, principal of Fenger High was a hero. She saved as many as she could, and gave even more. Not enough like her.

The problem started decades before your wife became involved. She is trying to schedule with those problems. Good luck with that. They are the result of the tenured teachers. Have at it and good luck.

Problem:

Colleges of education are consistently filled with students having the worst SAT or ACT scores of any department — including journalism.

I am in the same boat. My wife is an educator and she claims the biggest issue is the parents of a lot of these kids. Countless times she has been furious that parents will side with their kids vs the teacher. Many parents will go through the effort of placing a kid in another class blaming the teacher while they side with their kids. Totally ass backwards than when I was in school.
