I think it is because as a whole the people who grow up down here are too damn stupid to figure out how to open the door and come inside thus they get stuck outdoors for hours at a time and have nothing else to do.

I think it's just due to the fact that people in the mid-west and south tend to put much more of an emphasis on sports while people in the northeast & west put more of an emphasis on school.
