The first window to apply for Ohio sports betting licenses closed on Friday, but not before a flood of last-minute submissions that included some of the major names that had thus far been missing.
There are now 22 applications for "Type-A" online sports betting licenses, according to the list maintained by the Ohio Casino Control Commission. This includes recent additions such as the Cleveland Browns (who previously announced a partnership with the owner of Bally Bet), the Cincinnati Reds, and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Is it right that the teams playing, should have owners of franchises taking bets?

They ALWAYS took bets. The NFL was incepted on taking bets by its owners. But lets just say nothing is fixed. Nothing to see here. carry on now

Seems weird that owners of teams are allowed to take/make bets but they came down so hard on Ridley.... what about Ross in miami trying to pay Flores to tank? Thats alot worse imo bc it controls the outcome of the games

I agree. They should not be allowed to have any partnerships with any casino or sports book. Ever since off -shore gambling started back in 1992, lines have been solid. But now that States are allowed to partner with owners it could pose issues on outcomes of games. We'll have to wait and see.

Just two years ago former Browns head coach said that the Browns front office offered him money to lose the game. It never got to any investigation by the NFL.
Is that a sign of what is to come?
Could the NFL look the other way if there are meaningless scoring that would effect the point spread outcome?
Whats next? Are Colleges going to partner with casinos next? For years we read all about point-shaving schemes etc,
Its interesting to say the least.

You make alot of great points, its definitely concerning and something thats been on my mind for a hot minute now. Alot of integrity issues, especially the NFL with the horrible officiating and often times lopsided unequal standards applied to calls.

Those playoffs last year tho ?????

You're asking the wrong question. Who cares Why? The question is How? as in how do your figure that info into your handicapping. You like to have excuses ready (like your Covid excuses) when your picks falter instead of doing the work that needs to be done.

And the leagues, especially the NFL fought sports gambling from becoming legal for decades. Now they see the money and ratings that gambling brings.

Not easy for owner to fix games! Especially if the other owner of the team is fixing his game! Via players and coaches will be difficult. Through officials is easier. Officials are already all over the place with questionable calls. Mostly, due to stupid ass rules! (Helmets need to be removed) and that can solve half these dumb split second stupid calls.

I own the Browns, I tell my coach to lose the game. He has to get his defense cord and offense cord in on it also. I have to limit my QB and maybe get him involved. Now my QB makes 30 million a year. How much it going to cost me to have him throw a game? 100k 500k? That’s chump change to him. Hard to root out the competition in pro athletes. How are the 0-14 jets with T Lawrence on deck winning in LA week 15? The. Beating Cleveland week 16. Losing out on pick 1. Too many moving pieces even if you target the biggest help to do so in coach and QB.

Is making 5 million on a fixed game worth the risk? If lines are true and money in money out on both sides keep it pretty equal how much can be made without having bogus fake lines? What’s the price for Deshaun Watson and a 10-4 team to throw the game? How much for my coach? How much for assistant coaches? End of the day it could cost few million just get guys on board. And the return would have to be multiple million. Get caught doing that and you lose your billion dollar franchise. So it’s gonna cost a pretty penny, and require a few people on board who will have to keep quiet.

Watson takes 5 million to throw a game. Watson gets suspended for grabbing booty or Watson not happy with owner. Watson gets his money or gets mad and easily blows the roof off. He doesn’t have a franchise to lose. You give coaches and players a lot of power if you pay them to throw games. I coach Cleveland and throw a few games in coaching there till 2047! Fire me? Hahaha not so fast Brown, you fire me you lose your billion $ franchise.

Then I go back to what if other team is throwing game? What if other team thinks other team is throwing the game? What does two teams throwing games look like lol.

You can pay off a QB have bad game. Keep it under. Or don’t cover the 9. Still won’t be easy. Unless the entire team is in on it. O line still gonna block, rb still gonna Run hard. Even if coach and QB are in on it. Still going to really hard to seal the deal. D still going to play hard. Pick 6, punt return , big sack, absolutely shut down the other team. all sorts ways. Now Watson and coach gotta work extra hard to cover up the mess and it probably becomes too obvious.

Throw a game in NFL or even get suspected of throwing a game! Not only would the player or coach get hammered to Hell and lose all their cash, the players is what id worry about. They are no fools. And they have some certain rules in the the sport and locker room that are straight mafia type shit. Some of those Vets would beat Watson into a coma if he even looked like he was throwing the game. They worked hard for years to get their in a game many have big integrity for. You’re fucking with their personal work ethic and pay checks.

What’s Ed Reed and Ray Lewis doing if they find out or suspect Joe Flacco throwing a game? After they been wrecking their body for years clashing bodies. They were out there playing hard and their QB or coach was throwing the game? They would beat the brakes off Flacco in the locker room.

Can it be done? Sure. Will it be easy? Hell no. You’re risking a billion dollar franchise to profit how much? Going to be a whole hell of a lot to do so imo. Spend time in a college locker room. Then spend time in a pro locker room. Understand what the sport means to vast majority of these guys. Yes, money plays a big part. But a bigger part has been its all they know and their life. Years of torture on the body and mind to get to the highest level. You fuck around throwing games at NFL level, you are fucking with the lives of other players. And their money! If you haven’t been a part of that lifestyle you won’t understand what it’s gonna take to get guys to throw games under the owners ask or demands. It’s about like taking half a kilo off a 100 kilo shipment across the border from Pablo Escobar. Don’t seem like much. No harm no foul. Risk it for the biscuit if ya wish.
