Im tired of reading all the press clippings on these 2 guys. I dont care how good there stuff is. There comes a time when you have to do it on the field. Other than the 20 strikeout game and the great postseason 2 years ago what has Wood done to deserve being regarded one of the tops in the game? Other than a great postseason 2 years ago what has Josh Beckett ever done? Beckett has a losing career record.

That's the pinnacle of a Baseball Players career, something that a Cubbie will probebly never achieve.

Beckett has a 34-32 career record and He certainly helped Marlins win a World Series His career era is a very respectable 3.47 I would have to say that Kerry Wood is a little more over rated.

I think Wood easily...the average fan would think Kerry Wood has won more than 14 games in a season...

Beckett not nearly as well known to average fans ...

Not even close, Wood.

But I think this is because Wood started in 1998...Beckett was 2001.

So Wood has had 3 extra years to become over-rated.

I did not think this would be such a runaway. You can also add AJ Burnett to the overated group.

How is this even a topic? Wood's most known for two things: 1)Striking out 20 batters in a game, and 2)Always being injured.

Beckett was the World Series MVP, had a phenomenal postseason during their run, and has generally been more successful. Both have had their share of injury problems, but Beckett has at least accomplished SOMETHING other than becoming excuse #1 for why the Cubs will never win a championship because of his injuries.

And we now know the answer is WOOD:

Beckett strong as ever:

Beckett (3-1, 1.75 ERA) hasn’t lost since his April 5 season debut, slowing the opposition in nearly every subsequent outing. The right-hander allowed four hits and two walks in six innings of Saturday’s 6-0 victory over the New York Yankees. It marked the third straight start without allowing a run for Beckett, who extended his scoreless streak to 18 1-3 innings.

Nice 1.75 ERA
