Papers are easy to get, if you dont have them so, dont worry that much for them, worry for finding an openning job, cause this season is very low, for what Im being asking I know, that a book in Santa Ana, hires all year, you can check with them, here in San Pedro area, what you need to do is go with resume to every sportsbook. maybe you can find one. And if Im not wrong some guys around Nasa need people to travel to Guatemala or Mexico for their books there.

And yes I know the feeling that you have, but better stay there until you get something else.

And dont worry about the money, cause a lot of books underpaid their working people but others pay a fair amount and a few really pay good. So is just matter of luck or a good job serching.

Also I so in La Nacion that some books where looking for people, and one was looking for the graveyard shift a line mover.

Please don't get me wrong guys, i mean no disrespect,(and he's right, i mean a line mover making $200 a week is too low), but seems like this thread lets us see one thing that to me as a person and a worker, I find very unfair, and its the fact that, most of the time (not all the time) in this industry there are two kinds of salaries and employees: The Ticos and the Gringos, and the vast mayority of the time, they get pay accordingly to that not accordingly to any other paramether, I mean if you're a Gringo and you earn $200 a week your salary sucks, but if you are a Tico then you have a good salary, My belief is that people, should be paid according to, performance and experience, and not according to their country of origin.
Just a humble opinion

BTW: Why dont you just ask for a raise? :think2:

Valinor I take it you've never worked for a book, am I right?

most of the books (and by this I'm not saying all of them) pay gringos more just for the fact that they are gringos, I guess that because they are sure that their english is 100% perfect, no matter what job they do. When I was a wagering clerk there was this guy that was making $1/hour more than what I was making, we were trained together and everything, he was a really bad clerk, but was making more money than anybody else just for the fact of his perfect english

Regarding raises.... some companies (very few) give raises once a year based on your performance and all that. Some other companies think that since the salary you receive is on dollars and the colon is more and more devaluated everyday, you are making more colones today than a year ago, even if they are still paying you a lousy $200/week. So the devaluation that the colon has is a "raise" for you on your salary
