we know Boomer Sooner is #1 in the BCS (btw - take out the "C" and it is more accurate description of what it is) rankings when they come out Monday.

but who should be #2

for me - SIMPLE

the team that was playing the best at the end of last season and WITHOUT A DOUBT would have WON a 4-team playoff - USC! right now - i truly believe they are the ONLY team that can give oklahoma a game. save me the argument about florida state. the seminoles are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo overrated it stopped being funny a long time ago. FSU is a GOOD team - but you need to be a GREAT team to win it all. USC is a GREAT team. if usc runs the table - and they will - THEY should be the ones playing in New Orleans at seaosn's end! PERIOD! The "Crimicanes" have had too many close calls and i am not sold on their sked. they play a lot of less than stellar opponents and are life-and-death with too many of them. USC lost a 3 OT game on the road while miami got their asses handed to them on the road.

USC SHOULD be #2 in the BCS ratings monday and when they win out - should play in "n'ahhhhhlahhhns"

Nice post Winky, i agree with you. I think after USC lies LSU, and believe it or not, a two loss Michigan team who can out-physical most teams. As for USC, I think OK would handle them pretty easily, as the PAC-10 competition does not prepare USC for a Sooner style defense.

It would be fun to watch either way, and if USC protects the football, maybe they can hang.

Mine?..Close call, but Number Two LSU..Number Three USC..Number Four FSU(questionable though)

LSU has the only D comparable to OU this year(maybe VT?), can mash on both trenches as well as USC, has played a better schedule than USC, has a better loss(UF) than does USC(bad Cal team), yet USC has a better QB and FG Kicker.

LSU will possibly have an advantage over USC in the end, by playing in a Championship Game, and avenging it's lone loss this fall(UF).

Yes, I also agree last year that UGA and USC were playing as good ball as the two in the title game.

But USC has given up points to weak teams that have succumbed this fall by margin, where LSU has rocked all but UGA and UF to sleep by the end of the 1st Qtr or halftime.

USC would drop a few in the SEC(even this down version of the SEC, the last two falls)!

DON'T COUNT OUT THE BUCKEYES. THE DEFENDING CHAMPS FINISH WITH GAMES AGAINST MICH ST,PUR,AND MICH. IF THEY WIN OUT I WOULD THINK THEY WOULD HAVE AN EXCELLENT SHOT AT THE #2 RANKING BASED ON A STRONG STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE TO CLOSE OUT THE YEAR. THE BUCKS MAY WIN UGLY BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THEY FIND WAYS TO WIN

buckeyes will NOT go unbeaten - and even if they do - they are FAR from the 2nd best team in the country. i wouldn't put them in my top 5 - let alone #2.

on a neutral field, i would take the following teams over ohio state:

Oklahoma
USC
Va. Tech
Miami
Michigan
Michigan State
LSU
Georgia (IF healthy)

and i MIGHT take these teams:

Northern Illinois
Bowling Green (i know osu beat them in columbus - put that game on a neutral field and BG probably wins)
Washington State
Florida State

YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT WINKY, BUT AS WE ALL KNOW THIS SYSTEM IS NOT FAIR.ONE OF THE MAIN FACTORS IN DETERMINING WHO PLAYS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, EVEN YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THE BUKEYES HAVE A STRONG S.O.S TO FINSH THE YEAR OFF, WHICH JUST MIGHT BE ENOUGH. IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH COMPUTERS,NOT ALWAYS JUST ONE PERSONS OPINION

USC, FSU, Ohio State Lsu and Miami is my guess. Reason is FSU will be #3 in the AP poll and it's BCS points will only get better, LSU schedule will be worse after yesterday, so will OSU. SO the ap will be usc, FSU OSU and LSU/miami right there

I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY WINKY. IN MY OPINION, THE BEST TEAM OUT OF THE PAC DESERVED A TITLE SHOT. 3 YEARS BACK OREGON ST, 2 BACK OREGON AND LAST YEAR SOUTHERN CAL. OREGON ST VS OKLAHOMA AND OREGON VS MIAMI WOULD HAVE BEEN TREMENDOUS MATCHUPS. INSTEAD OVERATED FLORIDA ST AND NEBRASKA STUNK UP THE FIELD. NO DOUBT IN MY MIND USC WAS THE BEST LAST YEAR. OHIO ST WAS JUST HAPPY TO BE THERE AFTER ALL THEIR SQUEAKERS AND MIAMI WAS HAPPY THEY DID NOT HAVE TO FACE USC. SOUTHERN CAL DESERVES A SHOT AGAIN THIS YEAR BUT WILL PROBABLY GET SHAFTED AGAIN.

LSU should be ranked over LSU. I broke it down on another forum & will copy & paste my post on it.

Scott lets really break that down. I will focus on USC & LSU first.

USC's schedule:

Auburn (38)
BYU (8)
Hawaii (95)
California (18)
Arizona State (25)
Stanford (15)
Notre Dame (1)
Washington (53)
Washington State (37)
Arizona (11)
UCLA (39)
Oregon State (82)

Average: 35.16 SOS

LSU:

Louisiana-Monroe (98)
Arizona (11)
Western Illinois (125)
Georgia (24)
Mississippi State (51)
Florida (9)
South Carolina (33)
Auburn (38)
Louisiana Tech (28)
Alabama (4)
Mississippi (69)
Arkansas (5)

Average: 41.25 SOS

Now lets take out common opponents Arizona & Auburn

USC SOS: 37.30

LSU SOS: 44.60

Now #'s wise USC does have the advantage but lets break it down even further.

# Of Ranked Teams Beaten @ The Time Of The Game:

LSU:

1. Western Illinois (#1 in 1-AA)

2. Georgia (#7)

3. Auburn (#17)

USC:

1. Auburn (#6)

2. Washington State (#6)

LSU has the advantage there.

Lets look at the teams USC & LSU lost too.

California (USC):

5-5; SOS 18th

Florida (LSU):

6-3; SOS 9th

Advantage to LSU here.

USC lost to a Cal team that has losses to:

Kansas State (62)

Colorado State (32)

Utah (46)

Oregon State (82)

UCLA (39)

LSU lost to a Florida team that has losses to:

Miami Florida (22)

Tennessee (13)

Mississippi (69)

LSU in my opinion has a clear advantage here as well as they lost to a team that has fewer losses then the team that USC lost too & the team they lost too has a stronger SOS. We must also factor in the fact that LSU plays in a tougher conference.

The SEC has 5 teams in the top 25 in the AP & USA Today/ESPN polls including 2 in the top 10. The Pac 10 has only 2 teams in the top 25 with only one in the top 10 in both polls. Plus the SEC has a championship game in which LSU could possibly be playing in & most likely will face a team that will be ranked in the top 25 as well at the time of the game as the 3 teams fighting in the SEC East are all ranked.

I'll actually agree with ID here. How could you make that statement?

but I'm siding with LSU over USC if it came down to that.

What makes them a better overall team? The #'s don't lie.

well,there`s really no definitive answer..and maybe i overstated a bit.....lsu,imo,is a damned good team.....obviously,the bcs `numbers shake out a little differently.....

i`m not thrilled with mauck.....against a defense like oklahoma....i think usc has the better shot at staying in the game offensively....to be fair, lsu has had some offensive injuries that have to be considered....with everyone healthy, they are formidable...

it`s a tough call with so many good one loss teams... but,the fact remains that it looks as though both clubs will win out.....that makes it tough for lsu....

they are good...but as far as the bcs` numbers are concerned, they appear to be behind the 8 ball right now....

this is one of those years in which a playoff might be needed to decide #2,rather than #1....

I don't like to acknowledge the PAC-10, but I'd go with USC as no.2, then LSU right on their heels.
