The Texans traded a mid 1st round draft pick ( and maybe another pick) for a young Matt Schaub. Schaub wasn't even a starter, but showed good promise in limited action in Atlanta.
The Texans basically said that rather than drafting a new guy, having him sit on the bench a few years and learn the speed of the NFL... even though Schaub hasn't played much, we think he will fare better than say a guy we draft and sit...
Matt Cassell was a late round draft pick and career backup in college and the pros. All we really know is that he isn't as good as Tom Brady and he isn't as good as Carson Palmer... but not many people are.
So my Question.
Matt Stafford or Matt Cassell?
Cassell has sat a few years, and performed well in New England ( as QB friendly as it is). He is a guy that can step in and play right now. I'd actually view him as the less risky of the two, because at worst you have yourself a high end backup ( and maybe you have more).
Matt Stafford could be a really good player or he could be Jemarcus Russell with a big arm and no brain. Drafting a QB is a 50/50 crap shoot so who would you rather have?
