Give me your top 3, top 5, or top 10 teams that you feel will be good this year and have a shot at the Stanley Cup.

Top five teams according to betbrain.com’s compilation of offshore odds.

Detroit 6.24/1
Pittsburgh 6.44/1
San Jose 8.54
Chicago 8.61
Boston 9.63/1

Who could win the cup?
I’d add….
Philadelphia
Washington
Vancouver
….to the top of my list.

I am very bullish with Philadelphia at 25/1, (bought this earlier and no longer avaiable). The best number I see for them now is around 17/1. Still a good investment IMO.

…..But keep in mind this comes from the same guy who thought Dallas was the nuts last September.

Tampa Bay Lightning... I think they will have a strong year, perhaps get to the 2nd round.

I'm jumping on Calgary at 22/1

Also I see value in Anaheim at 29/1

In the east I'm backing Washington and Philly.

Oh yeah, and my dark horse pick is: St. Louis Blues - loved the kid line last year and they could improve dramatically.

With the addition of Pronger in Philly, if they can get ANY kind of goaltending out of Emery...and that is probably asking a lot, to me, they will be the team to beat. At least in the East. This will be the 21's century version of the old Broad Street Bully's. Gagne staying healthy is vital as well. In the West, I feel real good about what Vancouver looks like and another summer of Luongo feeling the heat to finally pay dividends.
Should be another FANtastic season.
I'm ready.

The Flyers better win it all. Every year they dig themselves deeper in terms of salary cap problems. Finally, they look to be as deep as you can get, and they still don't have an established starting goalie.

Let's look ahead to 4 seasons down the road... 2012-13

Flyers' Cap hit: $27.7 million for 5 players
Chris Pronger -- age 38
Danny Briere -- age 35
Mike Richards -- age 27 (the only decent signing, but not a bargain)
Kimmo Timonen -- age 37
Scott Hartnell -- age 30

Is it too early to say that there will be a lot of double A batteries sold in the next few years?

The Wings haven't had an established goalie for the last 30 years other than Dominik Hasek for a couple at the tail end of his career and they've won 4 cups and have been the most successful franchise in the league for the last 15 years
. Good team chemistry and a great captain can do wonders for a teams overall success. Yzerman and Lidstrom seemed to have proven that.

I think we had this same conversation around the 1st of July when Pronger signed. A lot of teams are in similar predicaments. At least that franchise is playing to win ever year as opposed to the Florida's, Phoenix's and LA Kings of the league. As a fan I'd much rather have that type of problem than continually in a rebuilding mode.

lol....
Flyers are definitely in a ‘win it today mentality’ evidenced by trading away both first round picks, (this and next year), a conditional 3rd round pick and Lupol for Pronger.

As far as Emery…..Is it too hard to imagine him having a stellar season considering this is his last shot at playing anywhere west of Minsk? It’s easy to forget he was one of the best goaltenders in the NHL before all the road rage incidents, inter-team fisticuffs, and being fashionably late for practices. I’m not saying he is miraculously cured of all his inner demons. But winning has the ability to keep one’s issues focused in a positive way. Nothing wrong with being a fighter so long it’s not against your teammate or some old man driving on the freeway.

There can be no debate he has the talent and with the cast around him Philly is a legitimate contender for the cup. I’d put them up against anything the east has to offer.

Osgood
Hasek
Vernon

All established... and all used in the last 10 years.

As a fan I'd hate to see that. It would be one thing if the team was winning, but losing in the first round is probably not enough success to justify this kind of stupidity. Blackhawks are starting to creep up in this department too.

I would love to see your Wings do that. Then in 5 years when you can't afford to pay your up and coming stars (the way the Wings draft there are a lot of em), the rest of the league will benefit.

We can always try to combine our two squads B'man, given all the snowbirds from NY down in FLA during hockey season. This way we can have the last two top picks in the draft, 5 starting goaltenders, a front 3, and a bunch of guys that would probably play on the 3rd and 4th lines for most other teams, if in the league at all.

Not to mention a head coach that's been indicted for illegal gambling, another head coach that couldn't identify himself in a one man lineup, and a bunch of owners that are trying to run two organizations with a total of five stanley cups into the ground.
