depends what you mean by feared?

feared as in physically?

or feared as in respect of skills?

if respect on skills, has to be this man:

Teams would REFUSE to throw to his side of the field, and would avoid the ball in his area AT ALL COSTS!

Chuck Bednarik is famous for a hit on Frank Gifford that put Gifford out for the rest of that season and the next and changed him from a running back to a wide reciever. Bednarik is also one of the very last two way payers. He played Cener and Middle Linebacker for the Eagles of the 50 and very early 60's. He was the mainstay on the 1960 Eagle team that won the 1960 NFL title (their last one). The NFL back then that was very rough and tumble and Bednarik was a known headhunter and tuff guy. IMO Ray Nietesche was more feared during the era, not to mention Big Daddy Lispcomb, Gino Marchetti and several other notorious characters back then.

OK Bednarik it is...anyone who can put Gifford out of his misery is on my list, Kathy Lee just called and also gave the thumbs up to Bednarik.

Guys like Butkus could certainly hit and hit hard, but LT could completley disrupt an offence. He revolutionized the linebacker position, nobody before him had done what he was able to do.
