At first glance I'd say Rice of course but after listening to the dudes on Sports Nation, they made a great point. Moss made a lot of average QBs very good.

Don't think there is as big of a difference as we think.

I have always said Moss is the best WR of all time. Very few tend to agree with me.

Tough call. Different eras. Rice was pre-Plan B and played in an era that a team stayed good/bad for long periods. Rice played alongside some really good players Montana, Young, Taylor, Craig, Rathman, Clarke, the Olinemen, etc. Not sure Moss had that same luxury for that long of a time and he made some defenders look silly with QB's just throwing the ball up.

At their best it was close. Moss was stuck with Daunte Culpepper in Minnesota and left for dead in Oakland, then spent one year with Brady and one year with Cassel before being effectively finished at age 31. Though he had better teammates and their careers overlapped, the environment Rice was in during the 80s was different from the passing environment this century. From 1998 through 2008, teams Moss was on averaged 540 pass attempts per year. During the years Rice had Montana and Young throwing to him, the 49ers averaged 538 attempts per year. (Yet Rice averaged 13 more receptions and 200 more yards). Rice then went on to have more good season with Jeff Garcia and Rich Gannon throwing to him, making the Pro Bowl at age 40. When two players have peaks that are near equal, the one who played in 100 more games is unquestionably better

Moss was unbelievable that first year with Brady

Brady just literally threw the ball deep over and over again and Moss went and got it every time, regardless of coverage

Jerry Rice* known cheater, have to give the edge to moss. Plus he played for a better coach, have to take that into consideration.

Rice admitted to using stickum on his gloves a good portion (maybe all?) of his career.. A banned substance.
The guy is such a consistently class act that I have to give him a free pass on that one. Not like he under inflated balls or anything.
