Who Here Has Been to a GA meeting?

Since it was brought up in another thread I was interested to see how many of you here have been to a GA meeting.

I actually went to 1 when I was 18 years old. I had been gambling and lost a lot, but never owed anyone and never borrowed from family. Most of my loses were options investments in the stock market. I gave my story and listened to the other stories. One guy tried to kill himself by sticking a fork in the electrical socket. I thought about it and realized he must be a moron b/c there are better and easier ways to kill yourself. Another guy was on a payment plan for going on 3 years. Everyone was a chain smoker and looked like guys who are at the track daily.

I walked away from the meeting realizing that I wasn't nearly bad enough off to necessitate me going to these meetings. These people were f ucked up and I was only mildly addicted. I've never had a problem since, I gamble a lot, but only what I can afford to lose. VT

I never went as I do not have any problem whatsoever, a lot of these organizations are cults that try to convince you your an addict so they can justify it.

I did to see what it was like...I was surprised at the people and how f'd up their lives were. It scared me into money management.

imo, gambling only becomes a problem by having poor money management, chasing your loses, and this is subjective, betting too many games. If your going to gamble, on sports especially, you have to be in it for the long term. just my 2 cents.

TODAY its a different beast by nature. offshore books with post-up if you want

infomation , scores are at hand , when you need them

nothing better that calling scorephone at 976-1313 for 75 cents a call

lol some of my phone bills weere 300 bucks because of that...

I wouldn't think very many. Most are probably lotto, casino, and trackers. Betting on sports requires a bookie willing to extend credit, and most bookies aren't gonna extend a lot of credit to suspect characters unless they are vouched for.

Those are my thoughts exactly. It is funny that this thread showed up today as I saw a billboard on the side of I75 advertising GA and it just ran through my mind that there would not even be a GA around if not for Lotto, bingo and the crappy indian casinos around here.

in high school, i knew this kid who lost 11 nba games in a row. kept doubling up to try and get even. after the 11th loss, the bookie cut him off. he owed like $18,000. his parents had to get a home equity loan.

Haha Kid yes have been there. Back 20 years ago you could charge a call to your home number even if you werent there. On Campus, my friend used to call the long distance scores numbers and charge them to his home phone....867-5309 lol. He got busted and had to do 50 hours of community service.

In 1990 I used to go to Hartsdale in Westchester county to GA meetings. Only cause my girl at the time gave me an ultimatum,lol. I used to call sportsphone on my coffee break at the meetings,lol. I'd leave my meeting, go to OTB in Nyack and see 2 other guys that go to same meeting,lol. Was a joke. BOTTOM line is you won't quit UNLESS YOU WANT TOO.
