Seeing that Robert Byrd, the senior DEMOCRAT senator from West Virginia is a past Grand Kleegle of the Ku Klux Klan, and his state is neighbor to both Gores Tennessee and Edwards North Carolina.

And then seeing that Al Gores dad was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan, and a well known racist who voted against Civil rights while in the congress.

Al Gore is your man.

By the way, since you bring up the subject, I find it amazing that Robert Byrd actually used the word "n i g g e r" on national TV, and was given a by from the main stream media, while Trent Lott was crucified in that same press at about the same time for lauding a man opn his 100th birthday - it just so happened that that man was a dixiecrat in the past.

Ain't it a wonder how the double standard is so strictly adhered to by the press.

Really cool of you to call Patriot a racist in the other thread, Captain. Why don't you apologize now before everybody else on the board realizes what a fool you are.

Exactly Bb! All of those old Democrats are now just Republicans! They finally gave up and joined the Party Of Carpetbaggers! Byrd would have too but he had more principles than his friends, that or he is too senile to know the difference.

I agree. They were hypocrits for over 100 years to remain Democrats when all along they were Republicans in Dems' clothing! I guess they finally got over the Republicans being Carpetbaggers! How else would you explain there not being any Republicans in the South for the whole 20th century until the early 80's?

Cap'n - Robert Byrd is the senior DEMOCRAT in the congress. He is now and always has been a racist yet the Democrats continue to laud him - most recently, he was assigned the task of grilling Condi Rice about the war - now why would the democrat leadership decide to send a well known racist to question a black woman?

Following is a history for you who choose forget what really happened:

The Republican Party was founded in 1854 on the principle of preventing the spread of slavery, while the Democrat-controlled Supreme Court handed down the Dred Scott decision (1857) declaring blacks non-persons.

When the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery passed Congress in 1865, 100 percent of Republican Congressmen voted for it, but only 23 percent of the Democrats.

When the 14th Amendment passed Congress to protect freedmen from state violations of their rights, 94 percent of Republicans and no Democrats voted for it. Southern Democrats created the KKK, however, which was anti-Republican as well as anti-black.

Republicans passed the 15th Amendment to guarantee the vote for freedmen, while not a single Democrat in Congress voted for it. Southern Democrats invented methods to disenfranchise blacks: poll taxes, literacy tests, grandfather clauses, black codes, white-only primaries, and so on.

Every African-American elected to Congress between Reconstruction and 1934 was Republican.

Republican Congressmen passed the 1871 Civil Rights Act against Klan violence and the 1875 Civil Rights Act, while not a single Democrat voted for either. The 1875 law was the last civil rights bill to pass for 90 years due to Democrat opposition.

Three African-Americans have presided over national Republican conventions: John R. Lynch, 1884, Edward Brook, 1968, and JC Watts in 2000. No African-American has presided over a Democrat convention.

The U.S. Senate recently apologized for failing to enact laws against lynching until a few decades ago. Republicans and some Northern Democrats tried repeatedly to pass federal anti-lynching legislation well into the 20th century only to see it blocked year after year by Southern Democrats. That's why Herbert Hoover won 3 of 4 black votes in 1932 vs. FDR.

Senator Dirksen (R, IL) provided the crucial votes to pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act over a Democrat filibuster."

Well, now we know why there were no Republicans in the South until recently. The Byrd deal is admittedly reprehensible. I apologize for all Liberals the words and deeds of Robert Byrd!

Let us not forget FDR - the Tuskegee Syphilis experiment started under his watch by his health department - for those of you who never heard of the Tuskegee Syphilis experiment, those blacks in Tuskegee who caught syphilis were given a placebo treatment so that the medical authorities in the Federal Health Department could track the ravages of syphilis. The patients were never told of this and had always thought they were getting treatment to cure the disease.

That's another attrocity the Democrats have managed to bury out of public sight.

Why should anybody apologize to Patriot! Its not slander if its true. Like Truman said to the GOP, "Its not hell I'm giving its the truth and they just think it hell!"

That's why it is truly unbelievable how all of these guys could somehow change their stripes and become Republicans. You would think they would become sick to their stomachs!

I already answered you - Al Gore in 2000 and John Edwards in 2004.

Seems to me thet you choose to avoid or ignore the facts that I've laid out for you.

History proves that the KKK was founded by the Democrats and has ALWAYS been a Democrat organization.

Why don't ou answer my question; Why did the Democrat leadership choose a known racist in Robert Byrd to lead the Democrat assault against Condi Rices confirmation as Secretary of State?

"The West Virginia Democrat, who officially left the Klan in 1943 but continued to advise the anti-black group for years afterward, said through a spokesman that he was merely assuring that the Senate fulfilled its constitutional role of advise and consent.

But the decision by Democrats to make Sen. Byrd the point man in the continuing assault against such a prominent African-American is a particulary awkward one, given his long history of racial misconduct.

In 2001, for instance, Byrd was forced to apologize after he blurted out the N-word twice during a nationally televised interview. "There are white n*gg*rs, I've seen a lot of white n*gg*rs in my time," Byrd told Fox News Sunday."

Clinton apologized for that debacle in 1997
