I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume most believe a combination of Texas, Bama, and Florida are there. I like Iowa and Boise as my other two. I'm a huge UT backer (so take this FWIW), but here is my order:

1. Texas
For their back to back to back wins against OU in Dallas (16-13), against Mizzou in Columbia (41-7), and against Okie State in Stillwater this last weekend (41-14). It sometimes takes the offense a bit to get in the game, but their defense can keep them in the game against any opponent in College Football.

2. Florida
Jesus (aka Tim Tebow) seemed to be playing more like Tebow against Georgia. I'd say he's still only around 80-90% though, personally. It's been three weeks now since the triumphant return of Jesus and if he can come back to a full 100, the Gaytors will beat Bama in the SEC championship and play for the title.

3. Iowa
Should've lost, could've lost, might've lost. But they win. The Big Ten has been waiting for someone to step up other than tOSU and play a Rose Bowl game as contenders as opposed to double-digit dogs. I think Iowa has a very good shot this year to beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl (if that's what happens). It's a neutral field as opposed to a home game for USC. This would be a great game.

4. Bama
This would be higher if they had one big win. This week is their chance. The Va Tech win isn't looking as impressive as the Hokies continue to lose; Arkansas, @ Ole Miss, and South Carolina just aren't those huge wins that I'd like to see. It's scary that Vegas sees them as a nine point fave at home against LSU, because I just don't see it.

5. Boise
Down a bit because of the tight game at Tulsa. But these guys keep winning and the Oregon win looks more impressive this week than it has all season. I still don't think they would beat any of the top 4 on a neutral field, so that's why they're at 5.

Just missing the mark: Oregon, Cincy, TCU, LSU, Ga Tech.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

UF has 18 straight wins...how are they not #1? Iowa is a good, but shouldn't be top 5 IMO.

10 of those wins were from last year and are not relevant, IMO. They've won 8 in a row where it matters for this year.

I would rank them as I'd bet on them (by their defense):

1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Texas (AL and TX could be flip-flopped without complaint)
4. TCU

After that, I have a strong lean towards 5. Oregon, and it's not to say that Oregon doesn't deserve to be higher based on how they're playing now, but I don't trust a team that doesn't win with defense.

Honorable mention, in order: Iowa, Cincinnati, Boise State

1. Boise

Just outright smoking everyone. Look at the attention Oregon is getting now. Look who kicked them. Well coached, year after year they kick butt. Because of conf chances of number 1 are slim. With the current system teams like Boise and Cincy for example, will never have a fair chance at playing for the title.

2. Texas

No losses, cruising through the schedule and have a heisman candidate at the helm.

3. Florida

Should have a loss. But they don't. Great qb who wills the team. Not Hesiman numbers but reputation alone will carry.

4. Alabama

Great D, but question their offense if they have to score. They could easily of had a loss also.

5. Georgia Tech

What an offense to go along with a gambling coach. They can play with anybody right now.

Iowa fortunate so far, but are undefeated.
Cincy plays noone but are still a very good team.
TCU pretty explosive team.

1.Alabama (their defense is sick and they got Ingram on offense, Julio should come around too)

2.Texas (Colt McCoy is coming into form and they have the defense too)

3.Florida (No Percy Harvin and No Percy Harvin)

4.Iowa (they won at Wisconsin, at Penn State, at Michigan State, the Arizona win looks even better now, they deserve some props)

5.TCU (great defense and now they have great offense which is not like previous years)

lots of GT people in the family and they are in my hometown. However, I'm very concerned with the defense. Furthermore, I noticed in the last few years teams have alot more success stopping their offense when they have more than a week to prepare for it (i.e. Miami this year, LSU in the bowl game last year and North Carolina last year)

Bama's offense is dogshit. No way they should be #1 and UF's defense is every bit as good as Bama's.

GT is a joke right? If they play a team that can throw they will lose by 20+. They cannot play from behind.

So lemme get this straight - Florida is deserving of #1 because they've won 18 consecutive games. But Iowa, winners of 13 in a row, doesn't belong in the top 5? you sir, are a genius. :ohno:

1.Florida..Until somebody knocks them off the throne I still would have to rate them number 1. They still have statistically the best defense in the country. And defense wins championships.

2.Texas..Statistically the second best defense in the country behind Florida. The offenses are just about dead even. Nuff said

3.Oregon...You really have to go by how teams are playing right now. And right now Oregon is playing at a high level and is the third best team in the country. Their defense is the real deal. And in the last 5 games have given up an average of just 260 yards per game against some pretty good offenses, and two top 10 teams in that span. Pretty much equal to the best teams in the country. Plus their offense is off the charts. The Ducks fit the definition of a turnaround team.

4.(Tie) Penn State & Iowa...I feel like PSU has improved quite a bit since their loss to Iowa earlier in the season. They are running the ball much better. And statistically PSU has a better defense than Iowa.

Honorable Mentions:

LSU..The Tigers have a feel of a team who is on the uptick. Their defense is still giving up less than 300 yards per game. And their offense looks like it's on the improve.

Bama..They look like they've lost a little bit of their lustre from their early season form. Rookie QB McElroy is struggling more in recent weeks in the meat of the SEC schedule. Only 120 and 92 yards passing in his last 2 games. And that was at home. Their defense gave up over 300 yards for the first time this season last week against Tennessee.

TCU...They are dominating their non-bcs opponets no doubt. But they were barely able to handle Clemson. And my bet is none of top 3 or 4 teams would have had any problem with Clemson.

Cincinnati..This team and coach are simply amazing. I don't know if they'll be able to beat a loaded Pitt team in crunchtime at the end of the season. But with what he's had to work with Kelly has done an unbelievable job. I would rate them higher. But their defense says they wouldn't be able to handle any of the top 5 teams.

Georgia Tech...Another team who is in much better form than they were earlier in the season when they were having some problems with their blocking schemes. Their defense isn't good enough to rate any higher. But sometimes their ball control triple option offense is their best defense. This team never seems to have an off week. Which is a nod to Johnson. Another great coach.

GT is NOT in my Top 5. They never were. Florida does have a great D. If they didn't, they would have been gone a long time ago like Bama. However, its tough to repeat historically and Florida lost Percy. I think they were better last year. The great USC Trojans repeated, but one was as BCS and one was Human, not BB BCS Champions which Florida will be attempting to do. Right now I'll take Ingram over Tebow and I'll take Bama's WR's over Florida's. Obviously, Bama has to take care of LSU first, but it should be must-see TV if they play Florida in the SEC Title Game in a playoff game. All the BCS bashers and playoff gurus will get one that night.

Look at Iowa's recent games against the SEC in Bowl Games. And I love the SEC. Iowa's got my respect. Historically, they even play like a SEC Team, very physical. Usually a great physical D and physical O-Line.

Major, another reason I have Florida #3 is people here in SEC Country want to take Florida down. Your team has been pounding everybody down here for a long time. Thus, take it as a compliment and a sign of respect. There is room at the top, but no place to sit down. Most people I meet from different SEC institutions down here hate Florida which probably means they fear them or respect them. Again, that is one of the highest praises you can get.

Chalk, with an offense like Oregon has, you won't see them needing to win with defense, maybe ever, however they don't lose because of defense and that's important.

I have commented several times this year about how well Oregon's defense has been playing. I admit that before Kelly took over as HC, defense has been a longtime complaint I have had about them, but not this season. Among a few things, they have as mean a pass rush as anyone needs averaging 3 sacks per game (11th nationally) and that doesn't take into account all the hurryups and flushes. They are loaded with speed all over the field and thay have a swarming defense vs the run. Their secondary has been superb, even with a couple of key injuries that might have crippled them but didn't. Their 5* stud CB true freshman Cliff Harris has picked it up superbly as asked of him and he will likely be an all-American next year -- also they just got one of their starting DB's TJ Ward back off the injured list last week (he got the pick vs Barkley) so they will be even better than they have been.

#1 FLORIDA

#2 Texas

#3 Alabama

#4 Boise State

#1 TEAM in the country is the FLORIDA GATORS!!!! When it is all said and done they will walk off the field as the National Champions. Texas is the #2 team in the country and a Florida/Texas National Championship game should be a GREAT GAME!!!! Both have great QB's, stellar defenses (maybe #1 and #2 in the country), great team speed and excellent coaching....

Love Alabam's defense BUT their offense leaves much to be desired...Put them #3 BUT I feel Boise State would have a legitimate shot at beating them.

The team that truthfully could be ranked #3 is Boise State....They may come from a popcorn conference but they did bitch slap Oregon already and they are very dangerous offensively and better than many think defensively. (They may have hurt themselves when they went into freeze mode up by a few TD's on Tulsa and let them get back in but don't let that game fool you)

From #5 on is a log jam with teams like TCU, Oregon, Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State, Oklahoma(with Bradford), USC, LSU, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati (w/Pike) and Pittsburgh.
