There is no confusion. You have exposed yourself.

Give him a break, we all can learn from each other. Many people mis-use match-play.

This isn't a match play question. It is the act of taking 1 unit instead of taking 2.5 units.

I'm the only one here that can read. I said nothing about match play strategy or anything else that is not related to your choice.

I strictly said you exposed yourself with your choice to the original question.

you're gonna give me 1 million dollars cash guaranteed

or i have 5 million on a game..if i win i get 5 mill if i lose i get nothing..

im taking my guaranteed million and saying have a nice day...

but coming to a gambling message board you have to expect people on here to be sick and try to gamble and not take free cash

Interesting topic, I doubt either option will be happening for anyone anytime soon.

To answer your question it depends on if you can hedge against the match play or not, if yes, you take the match play, if not, you take the guaranteed cash.

Because with any imagination you would see the free 1k (or million) is the lesser of the 2 payoffs

Randy: Isn't there a point where you accept the lower payoff ? It becomes theoretical at some point. What's the difference between having 500 million and 600 million ? You don't live any differently !

Yes there is. I have 50k BR so once it approached that I would have to take the lesser money or see if any buddies could get down more for me, which would be a big hassle.

Then Sherman's point is right, he said a mill or 5 mill MP. I answered MP and investors.

It makes me wonder how much you could get down on a baseball game.

the confusion about this thread is CAUSE most people thought you meantt 1 DIME, not 1 MILLION.

Most of us would take the 5 DIME play cause 1 DIME woudnt change out lives.

BUT

If it was 1 MILLION, the story would be different, most of us (if we are not already millionaires) would take the FREE MONEY.

that is where the confustion was.

True SS, but those that made that error have poor reading skills and it's not Sherman's fault !

On the brighter side some have learned something about how to use a match-play bonus 101 ( including Sherman).

Somebody got it through to me ( probably Fezzik, or Sean or somebody at Wong's site). I learn from others and feel obliged to help others behind me in the learning curve.

Many here know far more than I do, I'm willing to learn from them.

True but commas are correctly positioned. I think his meaning was clear enough. Those that took it for a dime still mis-read when further posts are read.

It was much easier to take it as a million than a dime.

I knew he meant 1 million/5million. Anybody who will take 1 million for something that is worth 2.25/2.4 million has no heart. To be a winning gambler, you have to have heart.

Does anybody here realize that 1 million barely can buy a nice house in a major city nowadays? What? Do you just buy it and sit in it? I wouldn't give too much credit for future earning potential on someone who takes the million.

Depends on your circumstances and wether there is a theoretical prohibition on buying back as a hedge. For many the million offers a lot of security. Mathematically it's correct to gamble on it. I'd be inclined to do it, add a zero... I take the money !

No right or wrong answer, it depends on the person's needs.

Pylon: You make me ponder this totally hypothetical stuation, which is good.

I'm worth less than a million and slightly over 40 ( in early 3rd quarter to put it in football terms). If this were real ( it's not ! ) , I've re-consdered I'd take Sherman's $1,000,000 cash. That's enough ! Kind of wipy on my part, I'll agree !, but enough ! I couldn't turn it down in my life situation presently.

I could live fairly decently with that cushion. The first mill is the hardest one to get !
