What's the deal with retail/physical location sportsbooks in Kentucky at this point? I see that Kentucky Downs had a $2 million turf race this past weekend but it's one of the few tracks that hasn't reported or even posts that sports wagering is coming there. I find it strange that you'd have the possibility to add that to your gambling experience but wouldn't jump on it, at a minimum as a draw/loss leader.

physical location sportsbooks

Churchill Downs (700 Central Ave., Louisville)
Derby City Gaming (4520 Poplar Level Road, Louisville)
Ellis Park (3300 US Hwy 41 N, Henderson)
The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland (244 Penny Lane, Williamsburg)
The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland Run (777 Winners Lane, Corbin)
Newport Racing & Gaming (1723 Monmouth St., Newport)
Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel (777 Winners Way, Oak Grove)
The Red Mile (1200 Red Mile Road, Lexington)
Turfway Park Racing & Gaming (7500 Turfway Road, Florence)

Additional sports betting facilities are expected to open in Louisville (Derby City Gaming Downtown), Ashland (Sandy's Gaming and Racing) and Owensboro (Ellis Park expansion) but will not yet be available Thursday. Keeneland did not seek a license with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, the state board in charge of regulating sports gambling in the state, but the Lexington racetrack owns the nearby Red Mile gaming complex

Interesting. So Oak Grove and Williamsburg are nearest the Tennessee border. I wonder why Kentucky Downs wouldn't partake, haha, their loss.

Q: Where are these brick-and-mortar locations in Kentucky?

A: The following locations will accept in-person bets on Sept. 7:

*Red Mile in Lexington.

▪ Churchill Downs in Louisville.

▪ Turfway Park in Florence.

▪ Ellis Park in Henderson.

▪ Oak Grove Gaming and Racing in Oak Grove.

▪ Derby City Gaming in Louisville.

▪ Newport Racing and Gaming in Newport.

▪ The Mint Gaming Hall at Cumberland Run in Corbin.

▪ The Mint Gaming Hall at Cumberland Run in Williamsburg.

Q: Will there be more?

A: The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission issued temporary licenses to three facilities that have yet to open: Derby City Gaming in downtown Louisville; Ellis Park in Owensboro and Sandy’s Gaming and Racing in Ashland.

A: Keeneland is partners with the Red Mile on gaming and sports wagering. There are no plans at present for a sports wagering facility at Keeneland, though that could change in the future.

Q: Can I bet at Kroger Field or Rupp Arena?

A: No. Under House Bill 551, retail sports betting is limited to the nine entities with horse racing licenses in Kentucky. Cost of the license is $500,000 with an annual $50,000 renewal fee.

Q: Why was the law written for only racetracks to host in-person wagering?

A: The thinking was that because of their experience with pari-mutuel wagering, racetracks were best equipped to handle retail sports betting. It also helps protect the horse industry in the state, which until now had a monopoly on sports wagering in Kentucky.

Will all those have tellers or just kiosks? I saw a vid on Turfway Park, looked decent. Does anyone know what Oak Grove or Williamsburg look like? Max bets?

I live in Nebraska, where it’s illegal. But I’m about 15 min away from the Iowa border. Love the easy use of draft kings deposits/payouts. If I use offshore I go through heritage. I used to have a local but he got to be a pain to deal with. Most of the time I just drive to place bets.

I'm so sick of that west flagler group

Hopefully they are fighting a losing battle and get what's coming to them
  • September 25, 2023:
The Florida sports betting legal drama added another notch to its belt when West Flagler Associates asked the Florida Supreme Court to prevent the Seminole Tribe of Florida from relaunching sports betting in the state. The US Court of Appeals, DC Circuit is due to make a final decision on whether it will issue a stay preventing Hard Rock from resuming sports wagering in Florida.

I hope these "West Flagler Associates" all catch syphilis.

West Flagler Associates are sore losers who never give up

It's not even about the points they are arguing

It's about money and them wanting a ruling in which they can profit themselves

Hopefully the supreme court is wise enough to do their own research and understand that if there is no legal sports betting in Florida, then those in the state will simply continue sending American $ out of the country, to offshore sports books

If anyone was interested, at Oak Grove I stopped by and saw that they had kiosks, and if you won you cashed at the cage. It was reasonable all the way around.

We're legal, I use draft kings but still wager more with my local offshore

better vig
If so, what books do you mainly use?

Here in Florida we're waiting to see if the courts are going to allow the state/Hard Rock to start up again

Also make sure you take advantage of the Legends program here for extra perks
I use DK- it’s user friendly and they’re super aggressive with customer acquisition and retention (AKA Promos). I was in Florida for the whole tease of legalizing it and then pretty much shutting it down immediately for legal proceedings lol
