I miss many of the pioneers in this industry, some of whom have seemingly disappeared from our eyes...

The following names come to mind, just to name a few...

HOW MANY NAMES ON THIS LIST DO YOU KNOWN?

1- JAY COHEN

2- BOBBY EREMIAN

3- JOHN ROGERS

4- THE BUDINS

5- BILLY SCOTT

*** ROGER (WWTS), KENNY HENSE, DAVID HIRSHMAN have left us but their love for this industry will always be remembered by me...

Sad isn't it that such talented guys who knew how to balance fairness and good service, not to mention savvy marketing, were chased out of business by the US government. The same government that complains that there isn't enough education or entrepreneuship took out a bunch of guys that would gladly educate others and take risks to further their industry.

They had some serious guts to come out and do what they did. If it weren't for them I don'y know where everone else would be.

I worked for the Budin brothers back in 1997, when they ran SDB Global out of the Zaret Free Zone in Costa Rica. That was one of the first operations here in Ticoland if I am not mistaken...

safe to say most are trying to stay under the radar.......

quote "they had some serious guts to what they did"

they moved offshore because they had too...the U.S. government gave them no choice.....so in essence the U.S. government helped create the offshore industry...kind of ironic...

SHRINK says they are pioneers of the industry....that they are...but they were pioneers out of necessity....most of the early bookmakers just wanted to be left alone by the officials, visions of internet gambling and post up operations, catering to the whole world...wasnt the plan at first....the visionaries came later....

Jay Cohen found out first hand that standing up for personal beliefs, while admirable wont change any laws....doubt you will see his name alongside any gambling related ventures (not publicly at least)....but that is jmo, as i have never met him..

if you lived in Ohio and made a bet from the 70's until the 80's,(think his roots go back to the 40's) chances are good #5 or his people took the action.....

lots of baggage stateside for Scott.....lives life hard and fast....people like him understand the risks of bookmaking and the way of life.....dont kow where he is....probably not toledo...

Is it some kind of joke everyone on Shrink's list is either in jail, under indictment or has been indicted in the past?

Bob Eremian did run SOS and was run off Antigua by local authorities. As always seems the case in these jurisdictions one guy gets to be a local scapegoat by the authorities to make it seem like they keeping the business clean, when what it does is protect what is left of the industry. All of these guys were bookmakers at some point of their history in the US and hence they all have records that follow them.

This is not some kind of a joke!

Yes, SOME of these fine men were indicted, but I have more respect for these guys than I do for virtually anyone else...

SHRINK....nothing wrong with having admiration and respect for those guys.....some people may view them as scum or look down on them because they have criminal records...

one of the unusual aspects of being a bookmaker is that you deal with people from ALL walks of life....very few professions bring you into contact with such a variety of people....

ive met doctors, lawyers, accountants, politicians, millionares of all sorts, ect.

along with drug dealers, pimps, thieves, hustlers, people of that nature..

and believe me when i say this....Character is NOT JOB RELATED......

i know people that come from wealthy families, went to top-notch schools, have million dollar homes, blah, blah blah....that have zero character...put them in a jam...and they fold like a cheap suit......

and vice versa....people that you would assume couldnt be trusted....but always kept thier word....

you view them as pioneers of the industry...some may view them as criminals,

in this business sometimes you can be both.....lol

The list is unfinished, there are other real pioneers in this biz, the shrink knows but probably forgot, some out of Antigua and some from the dominican republic; who got shafted buy the "system" and the US crapola.

They talkong about Gambling, geez, gambling never kill and in numbers like cigarettes
(one example), but noooooo cigs are legal and the Gov't collecting change on every pack,
maybe someone here can give us a figure on how much they collect on a monthly/yearly basis from taxes on cigs, and then give us numbers of deaths caused by them, the fianlly lets us know how many persons died from placing a wager.
