it seems around here that if you are deemed a "square" you are doomed to live a miserable lonely life.
but is being a square really all that bad?
of course its bad you say, squares lose....right? well they can get lucky and go on winning streaks but yes eventually they will lose.
now think about this, gambling to some people is a hobby just like golf, fishing, motorcycles etc. is a hobby to others....
i know some people who have spent a small fortune on keeping up with the latest drivers, putters, graphite rods, lures you get the idea
because they enjoy thier hobby.
now why should a person who enjoys making a bet every week on who ever is playing against the cowboys no matter what the line is (because he cant stand jerry) be any different?
the amount of money lost on betting and pursuing other interests is relative to the individual.
let me give you an example of some "squares" i know...
a certain group of 4 guys have been gathering in one of the guys back rooms at his business for the last 20 years (been betting with me for the last 10) on friday nights to drink beer and make the weekend bets..this has become a ritual for not only them but me. we settle up on fridays and i write all the action right there.
these guys are squarest of square they bet enough parlays to give me cramps, some of them like i said bet with or against certain teams, one of the guys will bet against the other guys team, just so they can rag each other over who lost. in fact they dont care if they really win or lose (if someone is collecting money, they buy the beer) they enjoy ribbing the guy who went 0-10 for the weekend.
these guys are convinced that bookies know the outcome of all the games, so i get my share of ribbing also..
the point im trying to make is these guys love to gamble, even though they realize they are going to lose more than they win.
just because you suck at golf doesnt mean you should quit, your still out there every chance you get. because you enjoy the game.
i now some guys who spend hours handicapping games, and come up with the same betting choice as these guys......and if the team loses they laugh about it and the worse the loss the better. while mr. handicapper is in a bad mood for the rest of the week because he lost a bet on a bad call, these guys cant remember why they bet on the team in the first place.
being square to these guys doesnt bother them in the least....
