What's the Scoop on MalPais?

Thinking about renting one of these houses for a week in July with my wife and some pals. I have been to CR once (Quepos/Manuel Antonio, arenal, etc.), but have not been to Malpais.

A couple of questions for those of you who may be in the know:

1) What is the best way to get to and from malpais? Should we fly into San Jose and rent a car or charter a van or something?

2) The houses seem very reasonably priced, is this typical for the area or is this a good deal?

3) Is their fairly consistent surf in the area during the summer months? Would it be a huge pain to bring boards with us?

4) Any other advice or things to watch out for?

Noonan I've lived there for years... If you a serious surfer bring your board. If not I would rent a board plenty of good sticks to choose from. The problem is bringing your board back and forth costs as much as a new one. However you could bring yours ride it and then sell it me when you leave =). Send me a pm im really familiar with the area and CR in general!!! Would be glad to help you out. I own property over there and have a lot of hooks....

Thanks for the response, MUCH appreciated man. We are currently looking at a week in July (just figuring out how many folks are down right now). I will definetly hit you up for some more advice as we firm up dates and headcounts. Hope to do some partying and catch some waves with you this summer!
