Having a debate with my buddy...

He believes the mind games involved in being in the batters box wondering what pitch comes next takes a lot more mental toughness to be good than tennis.

My argument is that in tennis you don't get to talk to a hitting coach/teammates/etc between points, let alone for the entire match.

Baseball is my favorite sport, but it is really a simple game, and you can fail 70% of the time and be considered great...Tennis is way more demanding...and you don't see any overweight tennis players out there like in other sports...

tennis for sure.

Now, if you asked about tennis vs. MLB pitcher that would be the pitcher no question.

There's a big difference between hitting the ball coming at you while standing still and hitting the ball over a net to a small area while in a full run..You have to be mentally tough to be able to do it for almost 5 hours like they did today, and still be at the top of your game at the finish.

Tennis easily. I'd argue it's also tougher than pitching. Tennis player are pushed further physically and require more co-ordination. Pitchers also have to out-wit opponents, but they are given time to regather themselves, reflect, strategise etc. You don't have that luxury as a tennis player.

Exactly. Pitching is a chess match with a lot of thinking time in between pitches. Tennis, you have to will yourself to win on every point. You have to fight hard with no end in sight, push yourself until you can't go anymore, and then push some more. And there is no bullpen to bail you out if you suck. Tennis for sure.

In baseball you have information on what the pitcher threw you previously. In between innings you can watch video of your last at bat before your next at bat and make corrections. In tennis that is not possible.

If anyone has played any kind of tennis, they know how difficult it is to hit a forhand shot and then move across the baseline and hit a backhanded winner.
