Yeah, I have absolutely no clue. Great Question. I'd really like to understand this myself. Also why Halftime at Superbowl has to feature acts/performances that would be as far as possible from what the main NFL Demographic would want to see. "Bruno Mars" Katy Perry. Closest they ever came was Aerosmith I suppose but then they played their later effiminate/pop songs like "Love in an elevator" which is among the worst songs in the history of recorded music...

as is this song you refer to...by The Outfield...who ain't from Massachusetts so....that isn't the answer.

OH HELL NO, thats an AWESOME SONG. New England 'Dont Ever Wanna Lose You'

....backed by KISS, (very much how BadFinger was "backed" by Beatles) New England is said to have even been "discovered" by....I believe Paul Stanley....of KISS.

In '79 (when I was very young) I thought New England WAS KISS just without the makeup...a suspicion totally supported by the enigmatic way the video for the song you mention got filmed...So INTENTIONALLY NOT showing band member's faces...filming instead their feet and only fog-eclipsed blurred out silhouettes.

Theres some who'd argue that the one guitarist shown in the fog is OBVIOUSLY ACE FREHLEY and I would support their case enthusiastically cuz the nose is a dead giveaway.

I still am, 35 years later here, far from convinced than Peter Criss, Ace and Paul Stanley were NOT actually in that band. Song sounds A LOT like what Ace did on his first Solo album, is totally Ace's Solo "style"and the composition is very obviously what ACE would produce and the lyrics/theme of those is very similar to "Beth"...a huge Kiss song written by Paul...this is KISS....if Gene Simmons had NO input whatsoever.

I suspect that Gene wouldn't allow NE music to be done under KISS cuz he felt it was too wimpy so Ace & Paul & Peter went and recorded as NE...tiny tiny chance thats accurate though, more probably "Don't Ever Wanna Lose You" was actually an Paul Stanley/Peter Criss/Ace Frehley song though that Gene being Gene would not allow recorded as KISS . IMO anyways.

Contradicting my theories though is the guys actually "known" and pretty much acknowledged...as being the actual band members of New England. I don't personally know how MUCH these guys are KNOWN to have, beyond a shadow of a doubt...comprised New England. Likely many folks in Massachusetts do.

Puzzling too if in fact NE was really 3/4 of KISS cuz "Beth" was so huge and made a very clear lane for such a song to be recorded by KISS...

I'm pretty sure they were on KISS's same label...Casablanca (Niel Bogart)...Patriots need to switch to that song ASAP, Divine Providence here.

I'm stunned you even know of that song let alone the band who did it. Hardly anyone does.

That song literally changed my life, no exaggeration. Theres not alot of lyrics and the depth of emotion/degree of expression accomplished with so few words was a"game changer" for me.

Ain't no Beltone Hearing Aid in the whole Quasar bad enough off operation-wise to confuse that song with the sonic torture that is Patriots current theme song.

Nope. Modern Day Israel, sometimes that is.

Is there one in Vermont as well? If so thats really cool and "interesting" to say the very least.

I'd love nothing more than for them to have given it to Lemmy and Motorhead cuz Lemmy's health going forward is a great concern to me, I wish I could see them at Half Time this year. I know it's the opposite end of the Spectrum though...from the pop-ish crap they use every year which is part of why I request Lemmy. Just ONE Motorhead Halftime would balance out for SEVERAL years of the pop-crap.

I'm trying to accomplish some "balance" here, and to be compensated for years of puzzling weak teenybopper acts that've made Halftime Show unwatchable and as completely uninteresting as the NFL could possibly make a Halftime Show. You KNOW Lemmy and Motorhead would be interesting and very very watchable.

I am a NE fan, but I don't know. Ill ask the local forums. I do know their is a history of them playing weird, seemingly inappropriate for the occasion pop songs -- listen to the music during the tuck rule review -- Phil Collins "I get the feeling that there is something in the air tonight .... HOLD ON." Why was that on queue?

SOMEthing was definitely afoot. My ruminations above about Ace/Paul/Peter BEING New England and that a project forced by GENE being an azzhole are INSANE, conclusion reached by a drunken teenaged mind (in 1979) but I swear I can still to this day hear so MUCH of Ace's unique guitar sound in that song. "Beth" (I think written by Paul Stanley..possible assist from Peter Criss) was about lovers separated by circumstance + an intensely sad song same as "Don't Ever Wanna Lose You"

I'm almost certain New England was also on Casablanca Records, pretty much "KISS's label" them being the first act Bogart signed. Donna Summer was on that label too but Casablanca was always seen as "KISS".

You may have resolved the mystery really though by theorizing the 2 bands had the same PRODUCER. Most likely thats why the sound is so much the same but maybe KISS members Co-wrote the song...if anything.

If only they'd not made the video so damn shady, as if they wanted to obscure concrete ID of members....I'd not be surprised if that whole deal wasn't just Paul Stanley tryin' to mess with people's heads in a "Paul is The Walrus" type fashion lol as he had to recognize the similarities of the song to what a colab tween him and ACE could produce and in '79 there were absolutely NO widely available photos of KISS sans the makeup.

You might find the DJ for Pats is a Kraft Family member or someone blackmailing them thus is Untouchable. Thats the only logical explanation. No way Pats Org doesn't realize whoever is responsible has the worst taste in music possible. Embarrassed by every choice of song but afraid to say anything to him. And whats up with that damn FOGHORN blasted at ear-shattering decibel level every 3rd down or play of even remote importance? Probably the same guy.

What's disturbing is the crowd singing this tripe in unison. Like I said, " embarrssing".

I actually thought the singing of the crowd sounded very good really. In other countries we hear large group singing like this (at Soccer games mostly, I believe) but I don't recall having heard this in USA other than here...with this song...which only makes me more confused about why this song?. ts a real mystery.

I seem to recall reading in an article detailing the life of one of the key members of The Outfield (the band whose song it is) who passed away in June of last year that this has been going on for quite a while too. This particular song & The New England Patriots.

There has to be some reason why. You reckon there is any chance that there are specific notes or sounds within this particular song that Belichick is able to use to mask subliminal underlying sounds or note patterns that somehow confuse the opposing team?

Maybe Belichick just uses it to annoy the hell out of the other team. That would explain, certainly, the foghorn.

Be pretty pointless, considering most of the crowd likely couldn't even identify Motorhead, let alone Lemmy.

But anything that ain't that ubiquitous Queen song everyone is sick to death of is ahead of the game anyway.
