With the poor numbers what it ElileXC doing wrong

is it the fighters, the marketing or caliber of production

I think personally that North Americans are just not ready for MMA outside of UFC not matter what it is.

that or the marketing

UFC=MMA to most fans. EliteXC is perceived as some feeder organization by the masses. Plus the quality of fighters isn't close to elite and won't attract some hardcore fans.

Production quality sucks (or, at least isn't as good as UFC and that is what people are used to)
Fighters aren't as good
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many commercials and too much down time
They did away with a lot of the cheesy-ness in their second show, but it still seems cheesy (the Baroni stuff was horrendous the first show)

here is what you have, MMA fans generally know the sport and know the caliber of these fights, fighters and production is far less than high quality, so they won't be repeat visitors. Non-MMA fans tuned in and saw the first show and that was horrendous. Cheesy as hell, horrible fighters and horrible fights. They won't tune back in, which is a shame b/c that was a farce and the WEC card the following night was AMAZING and something like that should have been the first intro to MMA for new viewers.

i think you hit it right on the head. fans in north america have so many options for their sports entertainment. factoring in work, there just isnt enough time for people to commit themselves to so many orgs or sports in general.

martial arts doesnt have the same history as it does in the far east or brazil. therefore, for people to open themselves up 1. with their time 2. with their wallet, it is going to take time and an extraordinary effort.

the problem with boxing, imo, is that their are too many belts, too many factions, not enough quality. to the people that arnt mma heads like us, elite xc is prob the equivalent of tuesday night fights on espn, where the ufc is tyson v. lewis.

people know the ufc and they know their big time fighters. that is why the elite xc announcers were commenting that on andersen silva and mentioning fighter x used to fight in the ufc. they were trying to protray themselves as the the equivelent.

the second show's production quality was by far better than anything the UFC has ever done.

Wow, it was better than the first, but I couldn't disagree more. UFC has it down to a science.

it is simple. they have fights for "championships" and neither the winner or the loser would achieve anything near a title fight in the UFC.

it is transparent. they clearly hoped it would not be... they clearly hoped the public would be too stupid to tell, but they are not.

EliteXC's Unfinished Business, live from Stockton, California, drew 3,701 paying customers at the gate.

That's shitty and with Shields and Diaz from that area you would think they draw more support.

Whats the population of Stockton Cali?

Socal is a hot bed for fighting and yet they cant draw.

Maybe MMA is not as main stream as most people think

maybe MMA is like watching a fat girl eat, cool to look at and it may excite you but not for long

I'd say it's about the same.

Elite is legit though. They got real professionals working on the production. Also they got rid of the dancing skanks.

It took UFC years to make their product look polished. I remember a couple of years ago, one of the major complaints in the PRIDE/UFC debate was the crap production of the UFC. Now they've gotten better, and we're just so used to the style that anything different seems almost odd.

mma is mainstream it is just the mainstream prefers the product put out by the better organizations.

and the production is crap... the announcers are crap... the fighters are improving but they are still rejects of, you guessed it, the UFC...

ok, so production wise what's better about the UFC broadcasts? I mean you had Gus Johnson who is better than Mike Goldber as a play by play guy. Frank Shamrock has had real MMA fights before and is better than Rogan. You had Jimmy Lennon Jr who is basically legendary and a hell of a lot better than the UFC guy that ower his career to his brother. You mean to tell me CBS doesn't know how to shoot a sporting event as well as Zuffa/Spike? And oh yeah we got to see some of the prelims on showtime. I guess there wasn't a text message poll. Is that what some of you were missing?

Better to just ignore Uno then to respond. He was trying to convince us a few weeks ago that Fedor didn't sign with the UFC because he wouldn't have been able to hang with the UFC HWs. Then after Fedor beat Sylvia in 36 seconds, he started saying how that fight looked fixed. :think2:

haha, they are fighting for EliteXC and not the UFC for a reason. I was more or less talking about the guys you did not mention but don't be fooled into thinking anyone on that card would not rather be a part of the UFC.

as far as the fedor fight and my comments. it looked like sylvia could have easily gone into that fight to get destroyed and he did. sylvia is a talented guy but he is on the tail end of his career and i am sure affliction could have made it worth his while.

anyone that doubts that if fedor had been fighting ufc caliber talent his whole career and some point he would have had a loss. he likes getting the leftovers at this stage of his career and that is what sylvia is.... guy lost to randy couture so lets not act like his win a couple of weeks ago wipes away the shitty competition he has faught the last couple of years.

some people wanna buy what others wanna sell them... by all means buy away.

It's nice when the other guy wins the argument for you and you don't have to say anything in return.
