I don't think wives or children count as the ultimate motivations in life. I'd hate to be born only to find myself the main life motivator for one or both of my parents. Yucch, let me turn 18 and I'm outta there.
Instead, I see a wife and children as partners in whatever other motivations there are. Or at least this is how it should be IMO.
My motivations are mainly political. Whenever I talk to people, I try to represent my ideals, paying close attention to keeping them consistent with my actions. Every interaction is a fight to get as many people as possible to either adopt my ideals, or correct me if I'm wrong and show me the merits of another way, all while living a comfortable life.
My main ideal is to achieve equilibrium in globalization, ie. to have America respect other countries' rights to form closed, homogenous societies with free trade of most goods, services, and information, the exceptions being land and certain basic goods and services close to the core of the local culture, like permanent, irreplaceable natural resources for example. The USA seems to want to turn all societies into open and heterogenous ones like its own and I believe this is wrong.
Whenever I'm down or bored I think of what I can do to further my ideals, even if it is only something small.
I could go on about my other ideals, but I think that would bore most readers so I'll just leave it here.
