Myself being the inquiring type always looking for inspiration and how others think ...What motivates you these days....

What really matters and what should be regarded as significant often get lost in the daily grind...

So what really motivates us?

General, you first

I'm going to make people sick here but my wife inspires me. The first time I looked in to those green eyes I knew I wanted to make her proud of me. It sucks when I know I let her down so I try not do it very often......

Actually there are some things people can make fun of me for all you want, family is one of them. I will never do anything to screw my own family if I can help it, just not worth it to me.

I don't think wives or children count as the ultimate motivations in life. I'd hate to be born only to find myself the main life motivator for one or both of my parents. Yucch, let me turn 18 and I'm outta there.

Instead, I see a wife and children as partners in whatever other motivations there are. Or at least this is how it should be IMO.

My motivations are mainly political. Whenever I talk to people, I try to represent my ideals, paying close attention to keeping them consistent with my actions. Every interaction is a fight to get as many people as possible to either adopt my ideals, or correct me if I'm wrong and show me the merits of another way, all while living a comfortable life.

My main ideal is to achieve equilibrium in globalization, ie. to have America respect other countries' rights to form closed, homogenous societies with free trade of most goods, services, and information, the exceptions being land and certain basic goods and services close to the core of the local culture, like permanent, irreplaceable natural resources for example. The USA seems to want to turn all societies into open and heterogenous ones like its own and I believe this is wrong.

Whenever I'm down or bored I think of what I can do to further my ideals, even if it is only something small.

I could go on about my other ideals, but I think that would bore most readers so I'll just leave it here.

interesting Darryl, its always good to hear what others are inspired by , nothing wrong with continuing on either...I`m either considered too serious or not serious enough, everything I`ve ever done has been to the extreme and in the last couple years i`ve lost my edge, could be age I don`t know...

Journeyman,

For me the biggest single eye-opener on these kinds of issues was the Unabomber's Manifesto:

http://www.thecourier.com/manifest.htm

I know he's a convicted murderer and supporting him could be considered politically incorrect, but the way I see it, the people he killed were not innocent civilians, so he's no worse than the U.S. government in that department.

I'd give it a thorough read if I were you.

I needed several months to digest it and really think about it before I finally formed my own view of the world. At first it sounds depressing and makes you think that if it were really like that, then we should just commit suicide. But once digested it can be put into as positive a light as anything else.
