I was reading the USA Today coaches poll and thought what it would look like with 8 according to their current ranking of 4. I would give the top 4 a first round home game, then let the next 2 rounds be at a neutral site.. I would also be in favor of this, I think the 8 team match up would be really great. It would look like this:

1. Alabama
2. Florida State
3. Oregon
4. TCU
5. Baylor
6. Ohio State
7. Michigan State
8. Arizona

First round games:

Game A Arizona @ Alabama
Game B Michigan State @ Florida State
Game C Ohio State @ Oregon
Game D Baylor @ TCU

Winner Game A vs Winner Game C
Winner Game D vs Winner Game B

I think these match ups would be interesting..

Arizona would be replaced if they lose this weekend. But I agree. 8-teamer is on the horizon

IMHO, they're gonna have to pay them for it to hit 8. Seriously, I'm 20, 21 maybe 22, and playing a 16 game pro schedule, I'm asking for money. Believe me, I played and if I'd had to play 16 games, someone is gonna be donating money to my favorite charity. Good luck with that idea.

Michigan State would be a dangerous team if they were in the playoffs., I know Ohio State beat them, but there would be no room for error when you play that team after Dantonio has game planned for you for a month.

Eliminate championship game and only 2 teams would play 15 games..2 more 14..2 more only 13 like the other bowl teams

If they ever go to 8 teams I wonder when they would start the playoffs. Before Christmas? If they begin it after the new year we're talking about a late January finish to the season. Plus I think the only realistic way to play the first round games is to give automatic home bids to the highest ranked teams. There are very few fans that would be able to travel all over the country to 3 different neutral site games.

This Is Not Gonna Happen, In My Life Time!!! You guys all like to gamble, I do too, but when you play, it's a whole different world. You think these college guys are gonna take the pain in a 16 game season without getting paid??? Damn, what world are you living in. I got hit by 240 lb linebackers, let me tell you how damn good it felt. Until they pay these kids, which I think they should, this is NOT gonna happen.

I agree with T... I wouldn't mind 6 teams with the top 2 receiving a bye.... Just seems more appropriate and rewarding for the top 2 teams

Agree 1st 4 would have to host. Would think it would have to start before Christmas. Championship Saturday is typically the 1st Saturday of December, no? Play the Quarterfinals 2 weekends later (for example, this year would be Friday 12/19 and 12/20). Semifinal games stay on 1/1 and rotate each year between the major 4 bowls. Play the championship game 9 days later on that Monday (as it currently is set up).

Would also get rid of this month layover BS. We could be watching 4 terrific games on 12/20 instead of the Camiella Bowl and Potato Bowl.

Makes too much sense though...give it 20 years!

Quadruple header on Jan 1st would be awsome..that would bring back New Years day as a great college football day

When the ratings are through the roof for this play-off it will happen....And the kids will never get paid....That is something that will never, ever happen in anyones life time.

Ya know, the banter is all in fun, please don't take it too damn personally, I certainly don't.....BUT PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN!!! LOL. If you think for one minute the agents aren't gonna get the fangs in something like that, I got some dam good ocean front property in Saskatchewan I'd make ya a pretty good deal on. Hell, I played in the SEC for 12 games each season, you have any idea how bad you hurt after that??? It's freakin amazing I got my diploma without shooting myself first. You think these guys are gonna play 16 games without money, hell, can't stop laughing. Let's see, a quote I remember...."I pity the fool."

Let me ask ya something, and I'm being polite here. How often does a back in the FCS face a line that averages let's say, 310? Not to mention, linebackers that weight 250 and can run a 4.45. REALLY??? Man, where the hell do you guys come up with this shit? WOW!

There are only 2 reasons to have an 8 team playoff....money...which means it will probably happen....and to cover the committees ass if they are so stupid as to have the best in the country ranked below no. 4...... In 50 years I have never heard anyone at seasons end say that the best team in the country was ranked below the top 4......the reason for a 4 team playoff is to find no 3....when voters pick a 1vs 2 the problem wasn't getting no 1in it was who was no 2 and 3. No 3 always felt they should have been there instead of no 2....now that is guaranteed....even if they have the 2 nd best team at no 4. We see no 1 vs 2

Actually most O-lines in FCS could compete size and strength wise with most FBS schools. Just look at North Dakota States roster, they have one O-lineman listed under 285 with most averaging around 300. The difference between FCS and FBS is overall team speed especially at the skill positions, not size and strength on the lines.

The problem is there are too many FBS teams and they do not play enough games intra-conference to determine who the best teams are unlike the NFL. There is no hiding in the NFL. Even the NFC south team has to legit earn it on the field if they finish with a losing record.

Eight would be great with the five power conferences getting auto bids so there is an even playing field. No offense, but if it was 1 vs 2 this year FSU would be guaranteed a spot in the BCS title game if they beat GT. However, are you telling me that FSU team would have went undefeated in the SEC West when it keeps needing miracles against bad teams at home to win games? Are you telling me FSU would have went undefeated with Bama's, Oregon's or TCU's schedule? I don't know, maybe, but I do know they had a relatively easy schedule compared to those programs and there is no objectionable way you can say that without playing it out on the field.

In the old BCS system if you had a weak sched and went undefeated you were guaranteed a shot at the title. If they give conf champs an auto bid there is no hiding behind weak schedules and weak teams like ND did a couple years back and possibly FSU this year.

8 teams is the sweet spot and correct way to handle it. Teams in the Big12 wouldnt mind at all. They dont have a conf. championship and dont need one unlike the supermega conferences that dont play all the other teams and therefore NEED a conf championship to make it fair to decide a champion.

15 games?

1) college teams already get 2 bye weeks which helps. they also get rest between their last game and their playoff game. if that's not enough, give them 3 bye weeks and start the season one week earlier. august is already a dead month....earlier is better anyway

2) most of these teams get a throwaway game or two as it is and dont play full games against Northeastern West Montana Tech...almost like an extra bye week

3) only 2 teams have to play 15 games...so 2 out of 120something. that's not extreme at all.

4) FCS plays more games already without issue

5) The playoff games, like bowl games, gives players some gifts and 'swag'. Every extra playoff game means more gifts, more swag......may or may not be enough to keep the players happy, but then again they are playing for the Natl Championship....so they may be OK with that

8 team is the right way to go and i'm sure the SEC and ESPN will push for it when only one of their beloved teams makes the final 4.....

also Arizona wouldnt make the final 8 after losing to Oregon and MissSt would squeak in there, making SEC/ESPN happy as pie. They would then move MissSt to the #7 spot to avoid having to play Bama first round.

SDF, let me ask ya something. To win the SEC, how many games do you have to play? Now you play an 8 team tourney, that's three more to win. Where the hell you guys coming up with 15 games??? S-I-X-T-E-E-N to win it all. Yeah, most teams schedule "Slippery Rock" because their brother-in-law coaches there, but that's like playing Oakland, LOL.
