Back awhile some guys came up with idea of taking whatever amount needed and re-betting about 7 or so times to gain the 10k needed for WSOP entry. They voted and it had to be unanimous. They won the first few.

Any update on it, or are you waiting next game still. It was a cool idea !

Yes, those last couple of bets would be way overbetting most bankrolls, esp. the last one for about 5k. Then you are probably dead money in the field of 3-6,000 ( ?) players. I'm just curious how they did.

I thought about it, then concluded it would be bad money management. I'd love to hear someone won the event this way !

We won 3 bets and are still waiting for a 4th but it looks like the originator Illini has given up on the idea. It's hard for a team to stay motivated when the captain jumps ship...no hard feelings on my part, but I was kind of looking forward to it...

That's cool ! The dream lives on ! Do you need 6 or 7 wins ? That last bet would be difficult to justify. Good luck !

I didn't really know that I was the captain. It was my idea, but we were all on the same level. But I felt a little bit of pressure, and wanted others to put out strong play suggestions. It seemed like I was putting regional plays out there that I knew, but most didn't know as well. Once we had won three, the amounts of our bets were very significant, and the pressure was mounting. I think we were all waiting for others to make plays.

Many were getting cold feet when the bets got up to uncomfortable levels. I still have the balance of the first bets waiting for us to keep going if those of you are into it.
I would give an absolute winner in Carrie Underwood at +180 in American Idol, but that will take us 9 weeks to collect.
I am very patient and won't force plays if they aren't there.

How confident, GD? 95%? How much have you bet on it already?

Basically the group lost its nutz, no cohesion, anybody gets out anytime. I got out before it started because I couldn't go through with it and realized it, before it got there.

I still like the idea, but am not surprised by the result, at least you guys won a few.

Illini,

I have a significant portion of funds in it, and would highly recommend you shop for the best line and bang away.

In all honesty Doug, my job function has changed so much that I really couldn't devote the time to putting the best efforts into the WSOP even if I wanted to compete this year.
I'm running a 500 person tourney between the WPT at the Mirage and the beginning of the WSOP, right after Memorial Day and would take much more satisfaction in that being a success.

I was pretty adamant at the beginning to make it irrevocable, have someone hold the funds etc., but the idea got shot down pretty quick. I know human nature all too well...it's the same reason people make bold parlays and then find themselves hedging at the end, even if it costs a lot of juice.

Not blaming anyone here, we're only human after all, and I could have posted more plays and pushed harder, so it was partly my fault too. Maybe we could do the segregated funds thing next year!? Playing in a team would be the only way I could imagine playing in the WSOP...hard to find motivation otherwise.

I agree, Darryl. Maybe Shrink can join the team and hold the funds next year. That way, there will be no backing out. Cause you can look at it as $150, but once you have 5K, human nature kicks in.
