I used to love reading his rants about how Fred Thompson was the messiah and the savior of the United States. I hadn't been on the political board in a while. What happened to him? Did he finally step away from the board so he could devote more time to watching Law and Order reruns?

Mark L (aka "JoeC") was banned for 90 days last fall after blowing yet another gasket and firing off a bevy of profane and violent blasts directed at a couple of our regular forum members.

After that ban period ended, I poked him over at EOG and asked when he was going to drop back by. He pledged that he would never again post here at RxForum as long as I was a member and as long as "that alcoholic lush Wilheim is Head Moderator".

So out of respect for that edict, we just made his Ban permanent.

I do know he's got at least one other ID here at the Rx because he's Pasted copies of Rx content over at EOG during the past year. But since he's not overtly using it to perpetuate profane and violent postings, none of us on the ModTeam really give a shit. We're just glad to be rid of him and happy he's found a home at EOG where his Hot Political Topics are read by somewhere between six to nine people on any given day.

To borrow an axiom he himself created, Mark's "JoeC" caricature is forever more languishing in Cyber Purgatory.

He might be posting under a ghost named mistermj.

And you could come back in your next life as a tree growing in Brooklyn...but I doubt it.

Come on, Barman, you're being a bit harsh. Love or hate Joe C, he was interesting, passionate, and informed.

And he was right on about his Obama warnings.

Actually, I've offered no particular opinion about Mark's "JC" persona (in this thread)

His ban last October was certainly appropriate. And when he told me at EOG that he would rather stay banned than ever post here again while I was a member and/or Wilheim was HeadMod, we simply complied with his request.

As for your latter quip, Mark had no particular warnings about President Obama that were any different than for ANY non-Republican candidate, so he's hardly prophetic.

Meanwhile, most of us who voted Obama remain very satisfied with our selection, especially when compared to the primary alternative presented last November.

Hard to argue with either point here. Even though his popularity numbers are down, I'd say they are still high enough to say "most" are satisified. I might remove the word very though, he has kept quite a bit of the Bush Policy in place. Healthcare actually passing is a key for lefty's to remain satisifed.

As for the alternative as a Conservative I certainly was less than pleased with pulling the lever for McCain. Ugh.

The US needs a third centrist party. One that will create policies that will ensure businesses have the opportunity to make money but won't do it at the expense of social programs to assist the general populous in giving them the opportunity to pursue live libery and happiness.

A secular pro-business party would be nice.

One of the benefits we have in Canada is 3 National Parties plus the Parti Quebecois. We haven't had a majority government in quite a while. It forces the political parties to pass legislation that is acceptable to the majority or the people or it won't pass and they risk getting booted out of power. It keeps both the right and left in check.

Another thing that I think would benefit the US system would be Elect the President for a single 6 year term. When they spend years 3-4 campaigning and years 7-8 in lame duck status they are only governing for 4 or the 8 years. Just a thought
