I was debating with some guys at work today about what the 3 most important things for a team to have in order to win the superbowl.

i said, defence, run game, and chemistry.

what do you guys think?

There's an infinity of factors... but being FB a game of strategy, I'd say the talent catalyzer for the Pats has been Belichick. His understanding of the game and the way he knows his players has been crucial.(I bet he's a great chess player as well)

This team won the Championship having won 15 games in a row. Many bettors say, "yeah, but they were close games"... reason the most to finally realize, that in this game it doesn't matter if you win by a field goal or 3 TD's... a win is a win.

What may have fooled many gamblers is the fact that they barely covered ATS and I'm sure there are many of you out there who realized that and that wagered accordingly... do the math guys and you'll find out this team was a money maker... when faded.

I stuck to stupid teasers myself...

Organizations win Super Bowls imo. You need an owner who will spend money but not interfere. Jerry Jones finally figured that out, and turned the Cowboys over to The Tuna. Can a SB be far off? Then you need a GM and a scouting program that know talent. Drafting your basic Drew Brees will not do the job. Then the coaching staff, emphasis on staff, just an excellent Head coach is not enough, but then the good ones know this. Then of course the players, they have to be talented, but also must mesh on and off the field. Great fans and a top notch facility don't hurt either. Throw in a little luck, and voila, you can win it all.

Coach has been a big predictor. Gruden last year was a big factor, before that Billick, an underrated guy IMO, had his team on fire when it counted. Shanahan was the missing link for Denver and Vermeil for the Rams. The factors most like to talk about seem to change every few years. Sometimes it is offense or defense, sometimes big line versus quick line. I mean it never stays the same, but good coaching and GM are always key.

Points.

I looked carefully into the NFL rules. Apparently, the team with the mosts points is frequently declared the winner.

What a strange systam. Wouldn't it be more American to have electoral points decided by the coaches brother determine the outcome? I think appointing winners would add more excitement to the league.

The Pats philosophy is to get the most out of the salary cap by looking for players that have B,B+ talent but are intelligent and unselfish and coaching them up to be A- players so you end up with a collection of more good smart players than teams with 2 or 3 great players that are ego maniacs, with the rest of that team that can't read at a 6th grade level (about 25 other teams).
Remember how Warren the Sapp said that Russ hochstein couldn't block his mother never mind Chris Jenkins...Well Brady never was sacked the entire playoffs..(a playoff record by the way)...Russ Hochstein will never be on the cover of SI, but he dosen't care.He cares about his TEAM winning....Russ Hochstein was a back up practice player with Tampa last year, this year he was part of an offensive line that helped Brady a 6th round pick never get sacked and complete more passes in a Super bowl game (32)than anyone in the history of the game.
