It may not be the job you want, but there are still jobs out there.

I am hearing more and more people saying they can't find employment. I say, do something less disireable for the time being, and keep looking for the job you want.

situations can get complicated although I am sure that the list of excuses to not taking a 'non desirable job' can get long and creative

for example, I wouldnt hire someone I consider overqualified .....as they would soon leave the minute they find something they want

in other words, why would I hire a software engineer to haul boxes in a small warehouse....I am sure 1 month later he would leave and then I have to hire someone else......and go through the motions etc

people like unemployment. I can not tell you the number of people we have offered jobs to who say..nah I will just stay on unemployment. I would love to spearhead a way to report these people to unemployment for refusing work that matches their skill and money. It is truly disgusting. Especially in PA!

If they are making more on unenjoyment than the minimum wage you are paying for a job that may be shitty, then I can't say that I disagree with them.

As I said we are offering them jobs that are at or VERY close to what they were making in their field of work/expertise. I am not talking about offering a forklift job to an accountant. that is assinine. My point is if someone was making $13/hr and a permanent job is offered at 12-13 an hour and they make a comment like "I will stay on unemployment" that is the shit that needs to be reported. Many states have exhorbatant unemeployment benefits that usually entice the $25k-$35K person to stay on unemployment. There is no sense in offering a job to an overqualified person because everyone knows the first offer that comes in he/she is gone.

Did I clear up my point?

Can part-timers draw unemployment? That is, employees working 20-25 hrs a week?

Well maybe not. Are you saying that 25-35K workers come into your office and go through the process without knowing that you are offering 12 bucks an hour, and when you offer them $12/hr and they don't take it that they should then be 'reported'? Are you sayin that people are streaming through your office, taking the time to apply and interview for a 12 buck an hour job with no intention of ever accepting a job- a $12/hr job? Maybe you could describe a 'permanent' twelve dollar an hour job that these ingrates are turning down? Walmart, MickyDees ? Obviously your trickle-down heart is in the right place to help these 'welfare moms' and the rest of the riff raff so I'm sure you want to clarify things.

Well $12 is 25K bozo so $12-$17/HR (soory for not being really specific) but it is the same. They are not streaming in as you elegantly put it. The resumes are posted online, with salary required, they are called ask what it pays and say no "not interested" . People have become prima-donnas.

All I was commenting on was YES there are jobs available. College degree, good work history, and you can find a job. Of course the 70-100K jobs are hard to find but the majority of workers in the US make between 25K-50K. I could go on for hours describing workers attitudes and how people are "desperate to work" yet when asked if they can start immediately (and are told before interviews) respond with "my cat died yesterday and I am not in a frame of mind to start tomorrow can I start in 2 weeks?" Or start the first day and call out sick the next..I could go on for hours. Anyone in the staffing industry knows exactly what I am talking about. And to further clarify we work in the Real Estate, Financial and Banking industry not Mickey Dees as you so eloquently stated.

similarly I have plenty of stories of "would you give me a coin" and then I say something like "no , but you can take down that tree with this ax......and I will pay you"

and then they take off faster than a olympic champ

In Michigan, No.

Kinz is right. Even if you take a step down for six months to a year, you can network, positions above you open unexpectedly too. It looks better than a gap on a resume. Employers like to know that you are driven.

Hey BB....In Nevada you can claim "partial" unemployment. If you file for "partial" in the off season, you claim the amount of pay you received each week and they deduct it from a standard unemployment rate for your pay. The way it works out here in tahoe is that if you work 2 shifts a week or less, it is +EV to just take the unemployment and let the other employees who need the shifts take them. You need to be a resident for 18 months to file so there is always some peeps that can't file and need the few shifts available.

Yes there are 12 dollar jobs 'out there'? Twelve dollar bozos have resumes? College degree good work history and you have a 12 buck job? What a suprise that some of your online applicants shy away from proven solid industries like Banking, Financial, and Real Estate speculation with mortgage and car payments due. "People have become prima-donnas?" What planet do you inhabit. Say more about your 25-35 K applicants wanting to stay on unemployment. There are very few jobs available because all industries are downsizing. Opps, banking ,'finance' (what the heck is that?) and real estate are not productive industries, they are pure speculation in collapse. Good luck with your exploitation of $12 dollar applicants feeding into the banking real estate market (you really want us to believe that 12 dollar jobs are floating out there in these predatory speculative industries?).

I do agree that people are not willing to take anything until they are completely in dire straits. However, there are certain jobs in certain positions you just can't take.

I have worked in the media here in Dallas and Pharmaceutical sales and was laid off in October. Not that it is below me to work at Wal-Mart or somewhere similiar, I would have to work where others didn't see me. If I am seen working at Wal-mart or something else, it hurts future opportunities getting back into the industry. I could be wrong, but when you have reached a certain level financially, taking a job at $12-16 hr/job, appears as if you have been fisically irresponsible. Also, if I run into a physician that I called on previously, it hurts my credibility in the future, right or wrong, that's just the way society is.
