This is a highly unethical move that proves the Shrink is a backstabber & greedy mofo

The farewell thread in the main forum has the details, but the synopsis is:

As most of us know already, the Shrink sold the site a year or two ago and remained here as a consultant. Now he announces he's leaving and he'll be starting a new site with more or less the same services as the Rx, ie. a direct competitor. Some deny it will be in direct competition but assume for the moment that it's true.

My question to you, my friends in the politics forum, is:

Where do you stand on the ethics of making a move like this?

In particular I'd be interested if there is any correlation between political views and opinion on this topic.

Since the guy getting screwed is rich and probably also a greedy mofo in liberals' eyes, I'd assume the libs wouldn't have a problem with that. OTOH the little guy also suffers (initially at least) because this site will be weakened and the new one may take a while to get going. Also libs tend to get more offended by BS slogans like "this is the best site" and "Marty is a great guy" which can hardly be reconciled with the new move.

Anyway I'll shut up now and wait to hear what you guys think. It's a pretty important question to me so I'd appreciate it if everyone would chime in.

There is usually an agreement at the point of sale not to do this for an agreed period.

But after that period its an open market again.

There is often a 'no poaching key staff' contract, for a limited period too.

Again, after a certain period, its an open market again.

It goes on all the time and is standard practice over the entire business world after a takeover/buyout/purchase.

You can't exclude someone from an industry they specialise in for too long just because they made a sale, that's daft.
At the end of the day the market will decide if you are any good.

It reminds me of Eastern European governments at the fall of communism...

Just before it they were saying Hail the Soviets in their fight against Imperialist USA, then they play musical chairs and chant: Hail USA and democracy. Yet for some reason the masses don't have a problem with this.

That's politicians Darryll.
People who love power.

If Hitler had been born in Russia he would have been a communist.

They really only want power, and will use whatever system that exists to achieve that political ambition.
A few hundred years ago he would have been a Royalist or a Republican...

just as:
People who love money will do whatever it takes for money.
People who love sex will do whatever it takes for sex.

This site will not suffer from any one or two posters leaving. They are both beneficial to this site, but therx will march forward.

I havent noticed many posts from either in the political forum.

Capitalists are a great example:

Wheres the outrage with all those companies using Communist Red China to make goods and profits?

Places like China are meant to be 'the enemies of capitalism'
...but if you can make a buck out of the place...:lolBIG:

It's all posturing and horseshít.

I don't think Hitler would have been able to come to power under any other type of regime. Same goes for Stalin and any US president.

Having an insatiable drive for power is a necessary condition I agree but it is far from sufficient. The regime has to suit your personality.

Puppet regimes of course are a different story. They aren't really bothered about who the current puppet master is.

The capitalists in Communist Red China are all clambering over one another like rats in a grainstore.

Their particular obsession is MONEY.

So as long as they can make cash out of the place, Communism is fine and dandy with the capitalists.

Why assume that the new site is a direct competitor? You could just as easily assume it is not.

At any rate, it's been well over a year and a half since Ken sold. I think what he is doing is just fine, if not outright predictable. He's not breaching any contracts for sure. And, as eek states, this industry is what he knows. What was he supposed to do? Start up a bakery?

Frankly, Darryl, I was blown away to see you so upset about it. Do you not believe that competition is good for business and good for the consumer?

He can't be expected to hold the same job forever; sooner or later he has to move on. I hope he takes with him employees, "trade secrets" and all the other garbage that companies like to try and restrict to themselves.

I am not concerned with their departure. Many solid picks coming from yourself and others like bucsfan. All the other hoopla is entertaining but not putting $$$ into my pockets.:drink:
